Great to see the train getting into Cape May City again. Does anyone know what the problem might be with the RDC's being unable to run under their own power? Cost of maintenance issues or lack of spare parts availability?

It's a bit odd that a nondescript sign for the Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum would be at that intersection, with no additional guidance telling how far, what, and exactly where the museum is. As it was, you would have had to go a good bit further. Anyhow, the Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum is loc...
Glenn, thanks for clarifying.
I stand corrected. Sandman Blvd is listed as Route 9 so there is a Rt 9 crossing. I thought that Rt 9 ended at Rt 109 but it goes all the way to the Cape May Ferry. That grade crossing has one of the larger overhead signals and its sad to hear that it was knocked over or damaged. What is more dissa...
Should be in Cape May next week Tues-Thurs and I'll try to find out when the CMSL expects to run its first 2010 train. Information has been hard to come by of late but I'll keep trying. dlagrua: If you have time, can you go out on a field inspection of the Sunset Beach Branch and see how far the en...
I know it's apples to oranges but I think a stop in Havre de Grace would be justified as a stop for morning commuters as the town has a nice size population and they wouldn't have to cross the river to Perryville or commute down Rt 40. I have noticed trains going over the bridge do so at low speeds...
Approx what is the distance between Capme May City ane the end of the sunset branch? Would it make a sufficiently long enough "train ride"? Perhaps the idea will be to give up the use of the vulnerable and very expensive canal bridge? Sunset Beach and the Cape May City station are approxi...
Okay thanks so much for looking into it! I'm guessing the tracks weren't in close to as good of shape as the mainline and traffic wasn't really a fast haul so the 15mph track speed sounds about right. Also, 10mph over bridges makes sense, considering some of those are pretty old. Nowadays I'm sure ...
Oh so there were few to no flashers and gates at crossings? Well I guess there weren't too many crossings to start with. Also would anyone happen to know the maximum operating speed on this line? I'm assuming it'd be fairly low and therefore would probably not have hardly an intermittent restrictio...
Was this line ever signaled in any way or did its length and lack of major importance lead it to never having any kind of signalling? Davis No, it was never signaled. In fact, at major road crossings, the brakeman or conductor acted as flagman to stop traffic when it was time for the train to pass.
Good, clear, sharp pics. Since these cars are of European design and construction, it isn't surprising to me that they would be smaller than expected, due to the narrowness of European streets that they usually run on.
The Savannah Roundhouse Museum is definitely worth a visit. There are several pieces of equipment and locomotives unique to the Central of Georgia Railway on display. Though some of the complex is in ruins, it has been cleaned up significantly to allow access to most all of it. Some of the complex's...
When the B&O discontinued service to New York the PRR devoted an entire A-notice to it and gave a heads-up to the effect that the former B&O passengers, who presumably would shift to the PRR, were accustomed to excellent on-board service and PRR people should try to measure up to it. And no...
Thank you very much but I also have stumbled upon some new information. If any of you remember, a few years ago on the news they were trying to find away to direct freight trains that carried dangerous chemicals and material around without having to go through DC. I saw on some feasiblity study tha...
You've already partially answered your own question. This was the trackage that served Fort Belvoir itself. I don't know exactly what year the spur was abandoned, but I would bet it had to have been in a year before RF&P became part of CSX.
