Re: Septa airport line and advanced purchase?

You are correct. There is no SEPTA ticket sales location at the airport, so most inbound passengers would have to pay the $8 onboard fare. But, you can certainly buy a ticket at 30th Street ahead of time. Why give SEPTA more money than you have to? Also, if you board at one of the inbound stations ...

SEPTA certainly needs to worry about how to get Amtrak customers past the fare gates. Has this problem ever been posed at the NPT sessions? If Amtrak loses the link, I'd think they'd push back on other access points (or shared rail terms) such that it would not be worthwhile for SEPTA to break thei...

And yes, the free transfer still exists, and I think SEPTA is still trying to figure out how to integrate it into NPT. Per SEPTA's approved tariff, the free transfer exists only as long as there is a separate agreement in force between SEPTA and Amtrak. If that agreement expires or is terminated by...

I'm riding on tuesday. I'll just ask the conductor. Can't tell if you are trolling or not. But I'm still curious. Why did you need to ask the conductor? Weren't you already told what it is? Why did an engineer give you one? Are you a child? Was he like, here have a souvenir? Couldn't you have asked...

Atlantic City is still a VERY busy destination, and the train still has decent, consistent ridership numbers. I'm pretty sure Revelers weren't riding the AC line anyway, so no effect there from them closing. The line should not experience any cutbacks because it is already operating at a sort of min...

It really is all about seat utilization, and the time savings at stops/starts is a benefit that pays dividends which you will notice if you miss a Lansdale or Thorndale express and have to catch the local instead. That mere 7 minutes saved quickly adds up to over an hour a week if you're a regular c...

Have any of you actually ever BEEN on the river line? Its purpose is good, but compared to comparable systems from the same era in St Louis and Pittsburgh and Norristown and Newark and Portland and Virginia Beach etc., it is somewhat deficient IMO. It suffers from low speeds, and if it weren't for t...

I know this is supposed to be a river line discussion, but as AC is in the title, I just want to switch gears and talk about rail. While it appears ridership has been strong, I do think they need to revisit the line and plan some more accessible stations. Cherry Hill set-up doesn't really cut the mu...

SEPTA trying to make money off of Suburban assets is a headline on philly.com (Inquirer) today. Apparently, they have been renting out their property at market rates, and pocketing money that would be city tax revenue. Will SEPTA be taxed on any revenues for renaming rights?

Tunnels to put stations right at places of peak demand could both straighten the ROW (to benefit through passengers) *and* eliminate a time-consuming and expensive taxi ride--a time and $ savings that would justify higher fares and win customers in the same way that 220mph service would, but at a m...

Some posters here have commented that they will not attempt a close connection in a city such as Chicago due to tardiness of trains. Saves a lot of agita, but bumps the cost. When the CZ detours through Wyoming, and it's on time, the train usually arrives early in either DEN or SLC. I've been on th...
