The lot is usually full at Mt. Arlington by the time the last rush hour eastbound train goes through. Any idea how many people get on the Lakeland buses here? I wonder if there are any people who take the train in and the bus out (or vice-versa)?

Yes, Ford was serviced by the NYS&W. When they left for Mahwah that led to some of the stockholders and bondholders to push for Henry Norton to retire as they "blamed" him for the loss of this traffic.
They belong to the Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society. Once the weather gets warm they will get a good cleaning and be restored to their EL-era appearance. They will be used in occasional excursion service to help us raise funds for our various dining car restorations. For more info: ht...
Otto,
I agree with the person on FB who thinks the person Walter Rich is talking to is Joe Synsation (SP), who was VP of Operations at one time for DO.
The GP18's crossing the Ramapo River bridge and the photo of Walter Rich at Butler NJ were taken in September of 1980. DO ran an inspection trip shortly after taking control of the bankrupt NYS&W RR (today it is the NYS&W RY). The photo of NYS&W S2 206 and those boxcars was taken in 1986...
Has a location been picked for Blairstown? The current station has a private owner. If a decent enough sized parking lot could be located there it would be a good spot for commuters from PA to get on well west of the traffic on I-80. Once you cross into PA you have to deal with the very expensive wo...
The Tioughnioga River starts as two branches just south of Syracuse and roughly follows the DL&W's Syracuse Branch. It flows into the Chenango River at Chenango Forks which is also where the Utica and Syracuse Branches meet. There was still through sleeping car service when this car was ordered ...
You wouldn't get a picture of a PL42AC on the Pequest Fill even if this project goes forward - the Andover station is about 1/2 mile east of where the Pequest Fill starts. The DL&W's 10-6 sleepers were all named after the various rivers that the DL&W crossed. The Pequest runs down to the Del...
Otto: On the locked thread on the New York Forum you stated the last timetable was dated October 29, 1959. I have one dated October 25, 1959. Were you mistaken on the date or did they issue a revised timetable 4 days later? EL had two 14 days apart in 1969, revising it to add the "Petition to D...
Shortly after Delaware Otsego took over the NYS&W in 1980, Walter Rich told the employees that he wanted to go to Allentown. That would have meant taking the NYS&W over the L&HR to Belvidere and then trackage rights beyond. I assume the goal was to interchange with the D&H for that c...
There are several sets of fiber optic cables that run through through the tunnel as well.
Before November of 1961, Lehigh & New England locomotives regularly traveled on the NYS&W between Swartswood Jct. and Hainesburg Jct. on trackage rights. The Erie, then the EL had a joint operation with the NYS&W between Susquehanna Transfer and Granton Jct. I believe there was one occas...
We have some exciting announcements for this Holiday season, and our first one is a new item in our store. We have reproduced "The Game of a Trip with Phoebe Snow", which was originally produced in 1899! Spin a dial and try to be the first player to reach San Francisco. Spaces on the board...
Otto,
I do remember reading about this somewhere, but I think it ended before WWI. I also remember it might have been operated by the Chicago & Western Indiana which the Erie partially owned and which also operated Dearborn and the trackage to the IN state line.
I saw an old map today that shows a car float ferry running from a point south of Salem across to Delaware. I had not heard of this operation before. Anyone know when this was abandoned? Any photos of it anywhere?
