The Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society will be operating three days of trips this Fall. All trips will be pulled by Delaware Lackawanna Alco locomotives. On Saturday September 1st we will be running a train to Scranton for the La Festa Italiana as well as to Steamtown for their annual R...

Yes this was the Lehigh & New England's Pochunck Railroad. There was a quarry and, of all things an annual peach harvest and outbound shipment. There was an attempt to build further east and connect to the L&HR as well. Some grade work and abutments can be found. The best reference is an art...

This seems to be in the wrong forum but while it is here does anyone know what track in Newark Penn Station the Lehigh Valley's trains used? How about in Penn Station, New York?

The word I have from my contact is that the final list is still in flux. As of yesterday it looks like it will be Erie and DL&W but not EL. I think NS will themselves go public by the end of this week or the beginning of next.

I am pretty sure that John Treen had a lot to do with creating that supplement.

Remember that Trains released this info prematurely. While I don't know which ones, I do know that requests have gone out for a couple of other paint schemes that make more sense than NH and NYC. I am pretty well convinced that the final list in not complete.

Otto, The people we dealt with were from the logical departments and fairly well up the maintenance chain. We went public because it appeared the Trains news story was an NS release but as you say NS has yet to release the story so I think we should hold back on further details until NS goes public....

I understand that the car has been tubed inside for use as office space. The project never got off the ground.

Then there must have been another event as recall seeing photos of new diesels on display at one of them - late 1940s or early 1950s. I thought it was a one time thing though.

And there was the non common carrier Rockland Lake Inclined Railroad that ran from the east side of the lake down to the Hudson. This time of year you can see a few traces of it.

At one time the track extended across River Street and ended in what is now a parking lot. I only once saw a boxcar over there (late 1960s). I don't know what was there to justify that track.

It's a real shame this route through to buf wasn't saved by amtrak. It's much more direct than the water level route of the current service to same. Without getting into the various dreams for restoring long distance service on the EL, realize that service to Buffalo ended in 1969 and through Scran...

I'm glad that someone mentioned Copperheads as I have found them along the Cutoff several times. Each time there were several of them all intertwined in a large nasty bundle. I have seen those long (maybe not 10 ft. but at least 5 ft.) black snakes. They seem to make a nest in the discarded ties. I ...

The gas line and a very early Western Union fiber optics line went through the tunnel very early. The gas line went in during the 1960s. Western Union was the 1970s. Remember that the NYS&W was(is) private industry and was n bad financial shape back then, in bankruptcy from 1976 until the DO pur...
