NS 36T and 37T were abolished last weekend. Effective Saturday 3/5, NS has extended the following trains onto the Southern Tier Mainline: NS 315- Binghamton, NY to Bellevue, OH NS 316- Bellevue, OH to Binghamton, NY I saw the inaugural run of NS 316 on Saturday morning. It was a mix of manifest frei...

I have driven thru Victor numerous times this winter and the rails were usually covered in snow. That's a sure sign of little, if any, business. The transload operation (telephone poles) near Rt 251 ended years ago. That leaves Victor Insulators as the sole customer on the west end of the line. The ...

It will be interesting to see how the B&H services the Hammondsport Industrial Track, which is basically the original B&H mainline from MP 3 to the yard limit in Bath. (The remaining track from MP 3 to the former winery site is OOS due to a washout.) ) The B&H did run their RS18u up to M...

Agreed. Adding a stop in Lyons wouldn't fit well with CSX's PSR policy.

"...lots of Norfolk Southern trains run through Binghamton..." is being generous as on a daily basis there are 4 road trains west of Binghamton, 4 road trains south of Binghamton, and 6 road trains north of Binghamton. East of Binghamton on the ex-Erie Central New York line to Port Jervis...

Are you referring to the B&H station in Hammondsport? If so, it still stands. Part of the station is used by the police dept and the rest of it is used as changing rooms for the public beach.

NS has removed 36T and 37T from the schedule again, in favor of adding length to 309 and 310. The trains are moving more slowly these days, so it often takes more than one crew to get from Buffalo to Binghamton (and vice versa). On the flip side, 69N has been running on occasion again to get the emp...

What's up with OM these days? They have those miles and miles of track paralleling Rt. 104, heading to the Xerox property, but this line hasn't seen a train in, what, months? Years? Is this line even being maintained any longer? The westernmost customer is currently just west of Rt 21 in Williamson...

They may sometimes be monsters now, but BUOI leaving Buffalo was quite often well over a mile long (sometimes three tracks out of Frontier's south yard), TV200/202 were way over a mile (and usually a half), DABU was routinely way over a mile and a half long - often 2 miles long. I had one DABU well...

Trains may be long, but there’s nowhere near the amount of traffic on the line from even 10 years ago. It’s a downward spiral but not just on the Southern Tier Some of the lost traffic was coal, which is gone and never to return. There is snad traffic now but not at the frequency co9al had back in ...

Thanks for the update Matt. Down to 6 trains a day... I can remember in the early 90s it was almost 20 a day. Fewer trains but they are much longer now. For example, there was a concern that 23K wouldn't fit into the siding @ Silver Springs because it was 12,900' long. I also recall 309 being 17,00...

It's just down the street from a brewery I like

I'm guessing that taking the trip Rt 14 and then west on Rt 104 would've also had clearance issues
