Re: PL42AC thread

I’m a little confused by this thread. There is discussion of Tier regulations (and upgrading to Tier 4) but also CARB. 1. Is there any federal law which requires the PL42AC to be upgraded to a higher Tier level to the one it entered service in? I thought the answer to that was “no” but people above ...

Shame Amtrak doesn’t have much remaining in the way of Cat equipped locomotives to operate to a Cat town… the corporate enthusiasm to welcome Cummins (Charger) or Wabtec (P42) to town can only be expected to go so far.

I realize this falls into the “easier said than done” bucket, but if Beech Grove continues to be the tail wagging the operational dog, and Indiana won’t invest in Amtrak service beyond what “prudently balanced budgets” dictate, then Amtrak should be similarly prudent and begin migrating the workflow...

Hilarious to watch the Twitter stans claim Elmo had nothing to do with hyperloop and thus this failure is no blow to his credibility.

Local rail fans getting excited by the first frames of Alstom’s holiday ad, which shows a picture of a locomotive in GO livery (which would have to be new given GO owns no existing Alstom or BBD power)

I think this is a bonkers idea and have no idea why Amtrak are persisting with it, but the one thing I guess it has going for it now is both companies are using Charger/Venture equipment which might help in some respect. Extending Blue Water to Sarnia seems so much more straight forward especially i...

Also note the UPX DMUs are designed for electric conversion if so desired. this seems to have been given up on. Unfortunately we seem to be stuck with 18 cars which is too small for the commuter service which UPX has evolved into from premium beginnings. Might be a bargain down the road for Sonoma ...

The AT&ST high levels have a 2nd floor that is about 8 inches lower than Superliners. That is a built in stumbiling location. Lower ceiling height could be a head knocker for tall persons. Both these problems going or coming into cars. Stumbled more than once going from Pacific Parlour to super...

Exo apparently have notions of acquiring the St Jerome line between Blainville and Parc metro and electrifying it, but that still seems more on an ALP45 project than an MR-90 one, unless they built a depot just for the EMUs and had people transfer for downtown destinations at Parc. https://www.lapre...

It is time for some of the $28B going to freight RRs to get rid of some of the bottlenecks. The taxpayer should be dismayed at the notion that they pay to reinstate the track capacity that PSR zealots ripped out, surely? In what other mode of transportation is the hauler permitted to determine the ...
