There used to be a roundhouse just southwest of the station, torn down a few years ago, now the site of a SHAWS supermarket. Around 1910-1912, the line was rebuilt and raised along with construction of the new station. The former station was where the MOBIL gas station is now. There was also a 2nd s...

I think the commonwealth owns the trackage / right of way, and the MA Central has operating rights.

Came across a small wood sign labled "WORCESTER SNOW TRAIN", which I assume is from Worcester, MA. Curious as to what this train was, a passenger/ski trip special, or work train ?

I'm assuming the track / rock cut that goes under High Street in Hudson, MA is from the Marlboro branch RR? Found this track / rock cut last weekend while in Hudson. The rails still looked to be in place also.

From Cornwall's book, the Harvard Branch RR ran from the fitchburg RR at Bleachery to near Kirkland and Mass ave in Cambridge, a total of 3673' of track. Horse car and omnibus competition led to the RR's demise in June 1855. An 1852 broadside I have shows 8 inbound and 8 outbound trips per day: Leav...

I used to remember the gate tenders shack near where the Getty gas station is, as well as the larger building with the switches/controls for the Lowell and Agricultural branch lines. In the late 60's I recalled freights heading North to Lowell on a regular basis. whie ice skating on Kendal's pond of...

Ridership is up considerably on the Fitchburg line, with a new parking garage being built in Fitchburg. Leominster just added a new parking lot, which fills up most weekdays. Shirley has little parking after 7:30am. There is talk, and it's just "talk" of adding more trains to the fitchburg...

Hasn't Guilford petitioned the ICC to abandon that line? I recall hearing some discussion a few months ago.

I recall a few yeara ago CONRAIL wanted to do tie/rail replacement on the line, but the "tree huggers" objected as the tracks ran through some 'sacred' swampland. I've also heard the Town of Framingham wants to make the line a bike path, at a cost of $3 - $4 million. Joe Farrell Farrell RR...
