You said the 690 is in the deadline? is it just stored due to downturn in business, or is there a mechanical problem?

Wouldn't the second mean, almost certainly, the scrappers torch? :(

That is interesting! I wonder why the switch in shade of blue. The "new blue" does look almost purple.

Ah i didn't realize that N&W merged the IT. So now i can see why the sd-39's were in black.
They N&W must have dumped them very quickly because you can still see the green paint on the vents-on photos taken in the early days of GRS.

Thanks for the info, I thought that the all black was the Phase 1 paint because it was on so many locomotives. I also thought the all black was a good looking paint scheme, even liked it more than the orange and gray, but oh well :-D On the SD-39's those are ex-Illinois Terminal, so didn't they come...

GRS/PAR paint schemes

I have seen several pictures of grs power in an all black paint scheme (like this one http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=994316 ) I suspect this scheme was "forced" on early GRS because so many of there locos were ex-NW or PC. The second scheme (i think) was the GRS gray/...

Just learned that the 680 (mrl 680 ex-grs, exx-nw) was parted out and then cut up. With ST 681 down and presumably done for good, are there any operable hihood sd-45's left anywhere?

What about inoperable?

2pm in Monmouth a train headed towards Waterville had several (3-5 i don't remember) QTTX flats with parts of windturbines on them. Behind those were an equal number of Heavy Duty 8axle flats with large objects, they looked like the campers you would put in the back of a pickup, with vents on the to...

So it isn't maintenance? they are taking track up? I didn't know that track was long enough to use as a passing track, i thought it was just for MOW storage.

Today about 12:30 in the afternoon i passed through winthrop. I saw a hirailer. Not a pickup truck, but a full size truck, it looked like a logging truck, with a crane or boomlift and a flatbed with something on it. I also so something further down the tracks, it was a quick glance, as the 202 overp...

Last night i saw a lone open top hopper sitting on the mainline. It was outside of town (to the south.) Today 5/9 i saw the 312 and the 690 in downtown Winthrop moving a sole tank car toward Waterville. There was no other railroad equipment in the area. Is this part of a "spring clean up?"...
