Re: Information Needed!!!

Based on your vague description, if the tunnel and the long, high steel trestle are next to each other, it sounds like the location is at Harper's Ferry, WV. Several miles west of Harper's Ferry, the N&W and B&O intersected at Shenandoah Junction. This might have been a joint fan trip from a...

Railfanning from any WMATA platform can end up being a hassle. Hassle, in that you'll need to buy a farecard to get onto the platform, and as far as parking is concerned, it's even more of a hassle. You will need an electronic SmartTrip pass to get you and your car out of any WMATA Metro parking lot...

Having stopped at that station aboard Amtrak trains on the way to NYC, the general surroundings are pretty much obscured by trees and the only observation points are the upper decks of the parking garage and the platform itself. So unless someone else can state other options away from the station fo...

Pretty sure there is one in Roanoke, VA. I have seen a scrap yard while traveling down 581 towards/from Martinsville on the east side. I know there is a spur into it. I have seen gons being loaded and old motive power getting torched inside their property. I am not sure how accessible it is for cam...

I.C.C. accident reports would provide the best information you're looking for, as to the cause (available at the National Archives, College Park, MD). Also, find out what local newspapers served the area at that time (usually available on microfilm at local libraries in the vicinity of the wreck).

Cincinnati Union Terminal Square Footage

Someone had posted a request a couple of days ago asking for the square footage of the Cincinnati Union Terminal here at the Baltimore & Ohio forum, but unfortunately, I now find that topic deleted. I had posted the question at Yahoo's B&O forum, and I got an answer from a member there (than...

Excellent explanation, thank you. I wrote down Merriken's book and its now in my list of MD railroad books. If you're able to locate a copy of Merriken's Every Hour on the Hour , expect to pay a hefty price for it, unless you're lucky and are able to snap up a copy at a decent price on ebay. This b...

There are many folklore stories about the EM-1's, but this is the first time I've heard this one. Sorry, don't mean to be sarcastic, but for as much attention/publicity as these locomotives got and continue to get, I can definitely say that all 30 EM-1's are now lost to the ages.

Re: CMSL service Rio Grande to Cape May - 2010

Thanks to all for the information on a real steam Thomas the Tank Engine and the Bel-Del. I don't get up into upper Jersey unless I'm going to NYC, which is why I'm unfamiliar with the Bel-Del; otherwise, I get to Cape May, generally about once a year, but unfortunately, not this year. I hope to get...

If a steam locomotive were to run on the CMSL, that would bring out the NIMBYs in full force, and be a catastrophic setback for Tony and the CMSL. As environmentally conscious as the State of New Jersey is, and has been for quite some time, I don't see any steam locomotive of any kind running anywhe...

The reason why they don't stop at Cold Spring Village is that they want to charge CMSL for the privilege. I believe CSV owns the station so they can try to get away with charging CMSL a fee if they stop there. Seems awfully petty on Cold Springs part but I know they have their panties all in a bind...

Subsequent to my above post, I did a bit of digging in my library to see what I could find out about the Weston station. Alan Clarke's book didn't say anything, as far as I was able to tell, but Carlos P. Avery's book, E. Francis Baldwin, Architect: The B&O, Baltimore, and Beyond documents that ...

Otto, I am moderator at the Baltimore & Ohio Yahoo List, and have posted a link to your post that features Ms. Reed's letter. You may or may not know that there is a history of the West Virginia & Pittsburgh written by Alan Clarke. I'm not sure if Mr. Clarke is a member at the B&O Yahoo ...
