Thanks for a very interesting article. I have travelled the route from Brunswick to Miami. The control unit on The Downeaster is called a "cabbage" since it provides both a control cab and a baggage section. It took me a while to get to the starting point in Brunswick but not as long as it...

The schedule for the northbound Executive Sleeper was much better than the southbound. Boarded in DC at 10:00 PM (might have been 9:30 PM) with departure at 10:30 PM. The one trip I took on it was very pleasant.

I once rode Amtrak's now long gone New York Executive from Washington to New York which was an attempt to solve the problem of middle of the night arrivals. The Executive was in service between 1984 and 1994 and was a single sleeping car handled on The Night Owl which continued on to Boston. Departu...

The May 11 issue of The New Yorker includes an entertaining article by Anthony Lane entitled "The Enduring Romance of the Night Train." It is mainly about European sleeping cars but also has some references to American trains and mentions the well known sleeping car scenes in "North b...

If postings were not anonymous I might think twice about this but since they are here goes. My longest coach trip was in 2005 and stretched over eleven days as follows: Williamsburg, New York, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Churchill, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Seattle, and finally my destination, Portland,...

NS VIA FAN, Thanks very much for your reply along with the photos, video and annotated map. You answered all of my questions. Since it was so long ago I didn't think about checking the NARCOA website for past excursions. In any case you jogged my memory and I really thank you for your efforts and sh...

NS VIA FAN, Thanks for explaining how Via travels from Sainte-Foy to Quebec City. Very helpful and I was able to trace the route on a map. When we were on our trackcar trip in 2009 I think I recall going through a tunnel somewhere when we were in the Quebec City area. Our eventual excursion route to...

Your post prompted a question. How does the train from Montreal to Quebec City operate in crossing the bridge and serve both Saint Foy and Quebec City? It seems that there must be a backup move involved in order to serve both stations.

Thanks for any information.

Thanks for the terrific and informative photos. Brought back memories of a speeder trip we took from Sainte Foy to Shawinigan and return. Trip coordinator tried to get us a side trip across the bridge but that didn't work out.

Sir Ray, Thanks very much for the links. I had begun to wonder if I had been mistaken in what I had been told (or what I thought I had been told) so I really appreciate you coming to my rescue.
