Curious to why the current tie replacement is rather extensive .... would surmise a good deal of ties would have been replaced during the initial reconstruction project prior to the Downeaster Service start up.
I am currently watching on TV, The Travelers Championship Golf tourney from Cromwell Connecticut. A railroad line parallels a section of the golf course .... curious to what line this is.
This line doesn’t have the same population as the route via Campbellton but a new stop at McGivney would serve Fredericton (metro pop. 100,000.....the capital of New Brunswick) There’s also the larger towns of Grand Falls, St. Leonard and a train would have to stop in Edmundston anyway.....a divisi...
:-) If the new company wants to compete with the CN, they will need to invest heavily on new rail and ties. Then they will have to convince the NBSR to sink money into their right of way for faster speeds. I hope they don't go the RailAmerica route with the line because those properties were in mise...
Anyone know if Irving is still receiving crude oil via Canadian National? AFAIK, there have been no loaded oil trains over PAR for the past week or so. There were views on NE Rail of an eastbound PAR oil train thru Bangor last Friday, July 12th. NB Southern deliverd the cars to St. John N.B. the fo...

In the current special collector's edition from Classic Trains Magazine, titled " Steam Glory 3 ", page 51 has a photo of Maine Central 4-6-2 # 470, bringing the railway's last steam hauled passenger train into Waterville Me., June 13th 1954. The photo has a great view of the Waterville Tr...

If anyone knows any additional information about FDRs travels to Campobello or could direct us to something factual it would be greatly appreciated, as we have looked into it, but no documentation of his travels seems to be readily available. On a second point, there -- if I'm not hallucinating -- was a photo op at Conway a bunch of years or even decades ago for which a bunch of oil-soaked rain jackets were placed in a smokebox and ignited to produce the impression of an active steamer. Mebbe someone with better memory or better documen...
The Irving Refinery began receiving crude about a month ago, from CN ( BNSF sourced ). Upon entering New Brunswick, the routing would be on CN's main through the center of the province to Moncton, then westward from there into St. John. Thus, the Irving Refinery is maximizing the rail input to St. J...
