You know, I won't make rude comments to Terry like some others do, but where it says "contributor" beneath his name, I think that's kind of an interpretive take on things... But it takes all kinds to make a forum. This would be a pretty boring place if we all only talked about high-short h...

Dunno but that made my day. Sometimes you see some great humor from the wierdest places on the railroad. A few days ago I was driving down lakeshore drive in Chicago and a two-unit set of Metra/IC highliners had the most extraordinary graffiti I've ever seen, wishing us all a merry Christmas...

How bout south shore? I saw 802 Little Joe and trainsim, but that's it. Although I also noticed someone somewhere has DLW MU's, which could be modified into IC MU's quite quickly as they were concurrent orders at Pullman.

You'll notice there isn't quite that many GE's running around after 18 years. GEunk.

Southern Indiana has 24" of snow and typically doesn't get near that much. In addition, motorists have been stranded for 12 hours on I-65. Make the usual jokes about crappy CSX track and scheduling for the Cardinal - I rode it a few weeks ago, it was crummy - but this really isn't joking weathe...

Now and then the Conrail Chicago line is blocked and Amtrak's Lakeshore detours over South Shore. The last time I saw was in 1992 Trains Magazine, two F40's and a complete train at Beverly Shores.

Leave it to FRA to make passenger railroading more expensive, even though it's about bankrupt EVERYWHERE.

I think they load it in bags thru the hatch in the side of the lounge cars - look at you can see a 2 sq foot hatch in lounges.

I watched trains leaving the Van Buren station last night at rush hour, and those Highliners really are pretty rusted. If you look at the sheet metal right where the top level goes down, big rust bubbles are appearing.

That makes sense. Where I work, our crews modify old factory cranes and those are originally powered off copper wires. We took some of that wire down once, went to lunch, and when we got back it was gone... On another note, I've been noticing 3200's circulating around the system with the yellow catw...

South Bend Trackage

 by Tadman ¦  Mon Dec 06, 2004 10:14 pm ¦  Forum: Midwestern Railfan ¦  Topic: South Bend Trackage ¦  Replies: 7 ¦  Views: 3176

When South Bend was highly industrialized, PRR and Wabash had alternate routes into the city from the south. Now that NS owns the ex-NYC main, the PRR and Wabash are only secondary tracks that barely reach the edge of town. Beyond the ethanol plant, what customers exist? I don't really see any custo...

Although I like the paint scheme, and the oddball equipment has character (read: makes it interesting) to a person 800 miles away, I get the feeling Guilford is like 1972 Rock Island with a**hole management. This seem like a fairly accurate one sentance synopsis?

ACRR F-units

 by Tadman ¦  Sun Dec 05, 2004 10:27 pm ¦  Forum: Canadian Railfan ¦  Topic: ACRR F-units ¦  Replies: 1 ¦  Views: 2320

After the CN takeover of WC, where to the ACRR F-units and passenger trains in general stand? Is there any future, or will they be contracted out to someone like Rocky Mountain rail? I heard something about F9 retirements.

I don't know much about GTI, MEC, or B&M, being a younger Chicago-based individual. I get the feeling a lot of people don't like GTI or have bad feelings towards management. Is there any reason for this? Anybody that could shed some light or history, I'd be interested to hear it.
