SubTalk is a great resource, and Dave Pirman does do a great job at nycsubway.org. I still get a lot out of SubTalk even if there are some people that post nonsense sometimes. The majority of the threads though are very interesting and on topic. I just ignore the ones that aren't for the most part. ...

Still would be a waste of money. Any more grade elimination on the main is a waste of money. What are the benefits to raising/sinking the line? Fewer traffic jams? That can easily be solved by greatly improving and expanding public transportation on Long Island and promoting it. A lot of improvemen...

Oh is that what the problem was. I only heard it was closed there for "police activity".

What about expresess? The T (2nd av lcl) the Q extended (2nd av /B'way exp) and the X( 2nd av exp) Hey, it could happen... Just hope they don't underestimate this There will be no 2nd Ave express. The line will be only 2 tracks. The is also no such thing that it will be an "IND" line or a...

Well, most of the people there already know about this site.
Yup, I would post here more too, but there's not always that much to talk about here. We need more people from SubTalk to post at this forum.

Getting rid of the 38's (Because I grew up with them and have many vivid memories): ...sniff...sniff....I can associate with that! Seriously though, the biggest blunders (as already mentioned) were the abandoning the Rockaway Branch, and loosing direct LIRR service to JFK, and abandoning the Wading...

Wow Bob, that is so interesting! Thanks so much for posting that. When I get a chance, I kind of have to visualize those alternate LIRR lines on a current map! The LIRR would sure be a different place today. There are some nice ideas in the "alternate" plan, but some dumb ones too. The Cen...

How about #160 10 years before it's "incident".

Yup, the LIRR used to be cool.
Here's another shot of the same F, 10 years later after your story, when I first started photographing the LIRR.

JMBethpage, I love your freight photo (certainly better than the stupid B/W gun one the other guy is using), but have mercy on those of us that have dial-up.....use the thumbnail for your avatar instead because it also narrows the width of the posts.
Again, cool photo though.

No, you first have to upload it from your files to a photo website online somewhere before you can post a photo on a forum such as this. A good choice is www.transitgallery.com. Once you do that, at that point your photo will then have a webaddress that you then click "img", and then the w...

The Wading River Branch would be very usefull today as it would help ease traffic on Route 25 which is way overburdened. In addition, all those towns (Rocky Point, Miller Place, Shorham, Wading River, etc) have had lots of development since 1939 when it was foolishly abandoned. Trails do help preser...
