"I am not saying that the SD-70's will or will not go to the Florida East Coast but in order for this to happen some things will have to occur. Cab air conditioning is a must on the FEC, all of their engines are so equipped and they are not used as leaders without this in working order. They w...

Schneider move likely has to do with Schneider naming CSX as their primary intermodal carrier in the east. That is, wherever they can use CSX, they will. In markets not served by CSX, they will maintain relations with other carriers to serve those.

Bow, NH coal train symbol

Good evening, Hoping someone may be able to help with a train symbol as I label some slides. Is there a typical symbol that an NS-powered Bow, NH empty coal train westbound through Ayer, MA would have, or are those run as extras with just an engine number and direction? Any assistance is greatly app...

The Q3 newsletter has a nice summary of the work at ED, along with what traffic blocks are handled by which trains.

Tom, Thank for posting the excellent information. Any chance the B23-7s will get some sort of MMA markings prior to being placed in service, along the lines of the nose logo on MMA 3000? That little addition makes a sharp looking unit! Hopefully these units will provide several years of good service...

Likely the Morristown & Erie, and I would suspect it's bound for or from the Maine Eastern. M&E is the operator of this line. 4228 is an ex CP C424.

Hi, Just happened along this post and have a bit more info for you-- the locomotive you saw was not an SD40-2, but rather an all new, Boise-built low emissions diesel. The model is a MP20-3C, and the PHL will replace their entire roster with 14 of these, and 2 of a yet to be seen 4-axle version. And...

A few weeks ago, I rode through the area with a friend. The C&D facility is definitely taking shape, but not yet in operation. We were unable to see how the spur was coming along, or either didn't notice, but definitely not any traffic coming or going yet.

The deal fell through several months ago. FEC determined the locomotive needed too much work, and it was sent to a RR museum in Arizona for storage by the owner.

They now have apparently purchased an ex Amtrak FL9, #484.

Railfanning Ayer

I occasionally have the opportunity to make a quick "fly-in" trip to visit a line I've been wanting to see. Currently eyeing a few possibilities for next week, and the talk of Ayer has raised my interest a bit. Would this be a good spot to get a fair amount of traffic in a relatively short...

Yep, that'd be the Shenandoah Valley RR, operated by the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley out of West Virginia. The portion of the CW from Pleasant Valley, VA to Staunton, VA has been shortlined for at least 10 years now. First operated by the Buckingham Branch, then the Eastern Shore (and briefly Bay...

Absolutely amazing article. Amazing, in that it seems to have little point and was seemingly written by a high school student with ADD. Mellon didn't buy Pan Am Airlines, only the naming rights, to heap on all that's wrong with this pathetic attempt at journalism. It could have been written as one r...

And here is a shot of the little potato hauler, the SLC. I photographed this on a visit to the SLRG, with the purpose of getting the ex CDAC F40Ms in action, which I was never able to do while on home rails and the demise of Iron Roads. Success at last! http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=1...
