Here's one from today - our crew went to drop off #18 in Whippany for a few hours so it could be used as a mobile air compressor to blow water out of the pipes and winterize the passenger cars. I went down to pick up the crew, and caught them crossing Parsippany Road: http://i755.photobucket.com/alb...

Oh, and here's another actual trainspotting report - 18 at Lake Junction / Chester Junction this morning around 10:30 AM. I had to deliver some things to the crew, so I grabbed some quick photos as they pulled up.

Now why does the M&E own so many MLW locomotives but not one runs or is even seen in Whippany or put in RRPX since the owner owns RRPX. I know rebuilding a locomotive is expensive but those locomotives are only getting older and are going to get more expensive to repair as vandals and weather d...

Another thought, why does the M&E own so many locomotives but only use three of them down in New Jersey. The 22 is still in running condition along with some of the Canadian locomotives (I know the 22 needs a new engine but it is still in "mint" condition".) Lol, what is your ide...

Oh, and here's some actual trainspotting....

Here are the girls up on the hill by the shop in Morristown this afternoon during some switching in the yard.

As of today, only 4124, 4146, 4911, and 4913 remain in Morristown. 4124 was in front of the shops on track 3 and 4146, 4911, and 4913 (in numerical order west-east) were still up on the hill. (sorry if this is slightly OT, but this was the most appropriate unlocked thread in which to post this) So,...

The crew left this morning around 0740 with an empty bulkhead flat, so at 0800, they would have been heading eastbound (not westbound - perhaps your daughter was mistaken?) through Chatham, probably to Center St.

The M&E suffered almost no damage due to Sandy - we didn't even lose power. There were a handful of downed trees on our various lines that were mostly cleared by the Wednesday following the storm and completely cleared by mid-day Thursday. We suffered no service interruptions on the Whippany Lin...

#20 emerged from its major overhaul today for a test run, which was a success! She'll be heading back to Bayway ASAP. http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/xx195/rudystrains/IMG_7832-1.jpg Then we used her for some switching around the shop while #18 was spotted up on the hill, ready for tomorrow's run...

Thanks for the info Rudy, and the great photo. So, when would they celebrate their 50th? When do we come back? Are their original (2nd) plates still about? Cheers Steve I've never seen a photo of either 18 or 19 with its builder's plate intact while on M&E property, dating back to when they wer...

Yup, it was the "Epicurus," a private car stored on the M&E at Whippany.

18 and 19 are actually unique cases as far as builder's numbers. They were built as ALCO #3382-01 (18) and #3382-01 (19) in September of 1964. However, they were both totaled on the TP&W in a wreck in early 1965, and were sent back to ALCO for rebuilding. They were so badly destroyed that ALCO a...
