Re: Boston Surface Railroad: Worcester-Providence Commuter Rail

I'm confused; first document from MA has date of revival in 2019, says organized in MA in 4/2023, says dissolved by SOC or court order 12/2023. So it is dead, and probably dead-dead in a way that zombies and vampires can't help. MA document also shows the Woonsocket train station address that might ...

Metrolink is the only customer so far for the EMD F125, of which there are 40, same as the MBTA's HSP-46. Prime mover is a Catepiller C175-20.

Will this allow an increase in MNCR and Amtrak service? It sounds really good! 4 hours notice is a long time; with such a long lead time they might not need tenders for each bridge during the overnight!

Here is the manufacturer's brochure https://www.stadlerrail.com/en/flirt-akku/details/. Yup, catenary, can run on electricity & charge it's batteries. Of course the T will have to order something completely different and more expensive. Does stadler make FRA compliant equipment?

So, roughly $10M per "BEMU", including spares. Only 2-car trains, and each battery power car only pulls one additional trailer (to be ordered later) and only seating for 56 per car. The press release says they are already making battery "Flirts" for Europe. Low boarding, and sing...

to get the large subsidies the MBTA demands they have to get support from the rest of the state, by creating stuff like a Berkshire Flyer or subsidizing Regional Transit Agencies (buses) that don't connect to each other. Out west they should be spending money on roads but that isn't PC....

I saw Bay City stamped on the steel. What was that?

You need privately owned Hi-Rail vehicles & access to the state owned tracks. And self-driving software that ties in with GPS and railroad dispatchers. Also self-driving DMUs. All technically feasible.

Looks like 70-80 miles round trip. 8.5 hours including whatever stop off. So 15mph? Implies >$1.36/mile, which seems reasonable for a custom charter trip.

Actually they respond rapidly; Expect a response at the very beginning of April. And try the Marvel Multiverse

Have to disagree; Ironically, extending the Lowell Line to Nashua or Manchester/Bedford would be very popular I think. As would putting back a bridge & reconnect Newburyport Line to Portsmouth.

The elephant in the room is the consent agreement between the state DCR and the US Army Corps of Engineers, including the ridiculous and unprecedented requirements baked in for "phase II". Which will never occur in the lifetime of anyone on this website. The NIMBYS have taken over the stat...

Traditionally, electrification reduces the operating costs compared to diesel. The MBTA should not consider electrification nor battery operations unless they can demonstrate that it will save money.

Tourists aren't going to take Commuter Rail to NH to go to the state liquor store, buy lottery tickets, cigarettes, fireworks, go to casinos or hotels. Perhaps they will take Commuter Rail to a restaurant. And I don't think you need to worry about the second homes driving up local spending, it's the...

Administratively dissolved in NH eff 9/1/2023. 120 day reinstatement period has expired. Did you check with the Island of Sodor Business Registrar? Trademarks presumably up for grabs. No way that they can operate any excursions without a new filing somewhere.
