The scrap dealer on Dot Ave in Southie was Har-Con Scrap. Last car pulled in either 2002 or 2003. The last car out of Baystate Paper was pulled in either 2004 or 2005. The last car pulled from the Boston Herald siding was no later than the spring of 2006. Sadly, I pulled the last car from the follo...

Last Friday CMQ hauled their first doublestacks, a three pack. They have previously done singles before as tests, so hopefully we'll continue to see this traffic grow. Im still a little amazed that between all the great coverage of the CMQ/EMR/NBS lines on multiple media platforms that no pictures ...

That would be one of the GP40MCs that the T has contracted out repair of. FRVT got a contract to repair one of them. Any idea how the 1139 moved from Rochester to Quincy? Special T equipment move after MC brought it to Middleboro? Also FRVT 102 with 12 cars for CSX interchange switching South Brain...

Interesting. CN is scrapping SD60Fs; probably too late at this point for CMQ to snatch a few of those. That might've been a more affordable option than leasing 44s or 70s. A reoccuring rumor over the last month is that out of the 50 some odd 9500 series CP AC4400CW stored at St Luc, a group could b...

Oh. Every once in a while I see Tate & Lyle shorter tank cars on some NS and CSX trains down here. Tate & Lyle is an international company with many plants throughout North America. The Houlton location predominantly has covered hoppers on its siding, other than that I don't have any inform...

Starch for the paper industry.

Pretty comprehensive list thus far, I'll add a couple: North to South Van Buren Former LMS lumber transload (mostly NB lumber mills transloading south) Dead River Fuels also has terminals in Fort Kent yard and Madawaska. They have active sidings but may not use rail all of the time. Fort Kent Log lo...

Town records indicate tanks onsite last used by Carey Heating Oil Co in early 1980's.

Thanks for the info.

Despite reports the PCB business is back, nothing is happening at the EPA Dewatering Facility on Melville Blvd. As far as I know. Have not been by there, but a friend did and there's no trackmobile spotted nor cars in the mini-yard. I apologize as I was getting my info from this SouthCoast Today ar...

Unrelated to Pan Am, some gons will also be loaded with New Bedford dredging for shipment west. More accurately they are returning to New Bedford. The gons from New Bedford weren't being used due to Rt 18 bridge construction and winter hiatus and were pressed into Everett service. Dredge rail servi...

Lafarge* (now LafargeHolcim) only receives portland cement from LafargeHolcim's Ravena plant, and only by barge. BostonUrbEx is right, faster and vastly more economical to move large quantities by barge than via rail. The Ste Constant plant serves Lunenburg, MA and Lebanon, NH terminals by rail. La...

Used to be double tracked. After single tracking, topo maps 1964 1968 1978 1979 show siding coming in from the South to the SW corner at Summer St. Aerials from that time frame show what seems to be a factory there, where now there is a garage at end of Woodlands way.
