Re: Buy new Siemens Charger or refurbish Genesis

Not saying any of the above assessments are necessarily right or wrong, but the existence of options for a long-distance version of the SC-44 Charger is not the same thing as a firm order or a signed contract for their construction. Contract options may - or may not - ever actually happen (note une...

Say what? The existence of the 150 national options has been known since Day 1 of the Charger contract. It's on Wikipedia and the document dump is all over the net. Nobody should be shocked/surprised/kerfuzzled at this, least of all in a fantasy thread such as this. It's been discussed extensively ...

No, there is a gap at the doorways. It was designed into the shell to make the car useable anywhere in North America.

Lets see what Siemens will do with the deign mod for low platforms, options might include a built in wheel chair lift/ extendable ramp to a "mini -high" type platform. Can't recall where I saw it demonstrated, but the Brightline cars come equipped with extendable car-to-platform ramps. Thi...

We should only support the rebuilding of P-42s if they are converted to AC traction. Many will have good frames and can be rebuilt then scrap the rest. Probably Amtrak will need some Chargers as well but until it can be determined the number of P-42 and P-40 upgrades available any argument is prema...

Something entirely different. For more detail you'll have to talk to the people who sign my paycheck.

It was a mechanical issue and we will start applying a "fix" this weekend.

We've only just begun the investigation to find the root cause. All I can say for right now is the batteries did not do a Samsung nor was it a problem with the electrical/charging system.

That's a great example of the P-S stainless over carbon. . Why bother with the stainless, why not just go carbon? Eventually Pullman figured out and built all stainless cars: R46s and Superliners, and St. Louis did so with Silverliner III and Arrow I (Comaro). I'm guessing the license from Budd was...

Cannot cite where but Moorman stated that having a 10 year program of rebuilding P-42s was possible. 'that would bother us unless the rebuilding included conversion to AC traction. That IMO would cause the P-42 to be too heavy on 4 axels ? Aware that a large portion of Amtrak's diesel fleet is agin...

There, at any one time, six P42s on lease to Caltrans. These will be the first to go when the Chargers are accepted and running solo.
