Regarding the M&E and its Alcos. What is happening now is a standardisation of the various M&E operations. In maine they use 2 FL-9s for pasenger service, so the Geeps being used there is, as noted by the CEO, a business decision to save on inventory. This is the news that was probably being...

Hi
If it's in behind the screen below the radiator section of the hood, it could be a belt driven air compressor. That's roughly the location of the compressor for memory. That would only be on the C-636's, the Ms have louvres that would be harder to see through.

Cheers

Hi Paul Just an observation from a long way away. Firstly, where's the H-20-44 from? Can't be too many of these around. From what I remember some of the F-Ms had Westinghouse traction motors which meant the truck frames were longer. My thought is that they wouldn't be an easy fit, but what do I know...

Hi SOOLINE Rob Firstly, I was one of 2 New Zealand members of the SOO Line Historical & Technical Soc 25 years ago, the other was a guy from Auckland called Rob! The mag you're looking for is the August 1999 issue of MR. It has an article detailing how to put Model Power Alco C-420 shells onto A...

Hi I'm about to detail and paint an N-scale Baldwin S-12 switcher to represent one of Rayonier's 2 original units #'s 201-202. I have some B&W photos of the switchers, but all show the left hand side only. Ahead of the battery box on the LHS there is a box similar in x-section to the battery box...

Hi I don't have any facts or dates in front of me, but I believe they bought the EMD SD-40-2s because they couldn't buy any new MLWs at the time due to a lengthy strike in Montreal. I also heard they did not like the SDs which is why they disappeared early. Possibly a case of shop maintenance staff ...

Hi Former Cartier units #s 78 & 79 are real celebrities. They were close to the last units to be built at Schenectady, being part of a 3 unit demo set (also Cartier #77) that were sold to Morrison-Knudson for rail construction projects far and wide including the Black Mesa & Lake Powell. The...

Hi I was part of a 4 man video crew touring the country in 1985 (shooting trains!). We had a wonderful time on the E&LS and were treated well. We were taken to the old P&H crane plant to view some of the old cars stored there. Parked in the open out the back were the 2 Sharks. A little worse...
