It will take me a while to figure out the best format, but I will post the USGS topo maps (1:250,000) covering the historic D&RGW from Denver to Salt Lake City, so you can see the lay of the ground. No need, John, here is a link to access historic USGS maps online: https://livingatlas.arcgis.co...

That is unacceptable. Some people connect to other transit and 30 minutes is too long and will cause people to miss their connecting ride. A subway is not like a commuter rail that operates every 30 minutes like VRE doese We'll a COVID-19 vaccine before summer, so hopefully, we return to some norma...

I swear, Mr. Norman, you have an inexhaustible supply of Adios drumheads that haven’t been used for LDs since Sunset East came off.

Theoretically CAF could add more Viewliners for VIA. More likely, VIA asks Siemens to consider a variant of the new Nightjet carriages (of which I can’t seem to find an exterior picture online). Maybe VIA decides to try out 4-bed open compartments instead of berths and 2-high closed compartments ins...

Disney will absolutely handle through baggage service & transfers, of course - they’re probably the most competent resort operators in the world and wouldn’t leave guests to make their own way. I suspect this station is also for day trippers who don’t need baggage service though.

Note my present tense, but my source for the statement was a '69 Guide.
And you’re quite correct in that the Cane Creek Branch appears to have never hosted passenger service.

We’re also assuming trains aren’t terminating at BFX, or if so, that they would continue to a distant storage yard somewhere further toward Niagara Falls. Can’t store trains at the station without essentially nullifying its capacity.

Mr. Norman: as of 1965 there are rails immediately across the Colorado River from Moab (ok, a short 2-3 mile minibus ride, but directly in front of the Arches NP main entrance.) https://utahrails.net/drgw/cane-creek-branch.php

Mod Note: as Pensyfan points out, we’re talking about Buffalo, specifically Buffalo-Exchange Street (not Buffalo Central or Buffalo-Depew except in comparison to BFX.) The Michigan Central thread is over here.

I’d feel a lot more comfortable if the improvements were taken holistically. The SPG safety improvements, the UP capacity improvements to ideally remove traffic from I-55, the roadbed and track work to reduce wear on equipment, the removal of long-term slow orders, and so forth. It’s still a frustra...

I’d also note in that rendering that the southernmost green space could easily be a train platform without much effort.

There's also the possibility of increased frequencies for the Empire Service, the eventual NY High Speed Rail on the corridor, and even GO Transit expanding to Buffalo; all of which would justify the use of a larger and grander station (of course being Central Terminal) that can hold more trains an...

The LRC used an 18-251F, not a 16 cylinder! On the other hand, you have to balance the weight of a single locomotive with one prime mover & alternator, albeit a heavy one, with two power cars each with their own prime mover, alternator, motors, etc. The equation doesn’t look so bad that way.

That was a master class, hxa. Thank you!

One question: what does “WIU” stand for? You explained the function of a WIU server as a central control point but I’m not sure what the acronym represents.
