Questions on NS 5287/H-02/M&E @ Dover

Can someone please help with a few answers?: 1) Was the M&E 20 on lease to NS the recent day it was teamed with NS 5287? Can I assume this was with a NS crew? 2) The caboose mentioned - what was it: NS, shared asset, M&E? And, why do they use one in your area? 3)Often wondered why NS just do...

Cabooses

Remember a LNE caboose ran regularly on the OA-3/AO-4 job in the early 60's.

Anyone remember it?

Was is loaned from the CNJ pool, or did the L&H acquire it?

L&NE Equipment

Remember seeing at least one LNE caboose running on the L&H in 1961-62.

It seemed to be assigned to the OA-3/AO-4 crews.

Don't know ownership status and whether it filled a shortage - with only 8 running there never was a surplus.

After the merger everything changed. 2/HB-9 and BH-12 were replaced by the "Turnaround" Scranton-Washington and return which often ran with three of the BLW road-switchers. If there weren't 2900 tons it was annulled. The Port Morris to Phillipsburg time freights 71 and 66 , the "Pburg...

Yes, it was him.

We always thought John was behind that amazing train the X-1, and I saving that for another edition of my "memories".

Nice the know someone is actually reading my stuff.

Then there was the time I believe very early 60's when the Port Morris Trainmaster got the brilliant idea to eliminate the Oxford Mine run with the Pburg Drill. The road power lashup (usually 4 F's) on 2/HB-9 would run up the hill. On the first trip about 10 or 11 at night , there they were stalled ...

Enjoying the Phoebe Snow discussion lately and recently re-reading "Lackawanna in NW NJ" where mention is made of the oddity of only a westward passenger train #47 in the final varnish days makes me want to share some memories of the freights west of Washngton in the 50's and early 60's. F...

I remember the LV (not CNJ) taking the DL&W passenger trains from Easton during the Hurricane Diane diversion route.

Mine is when I lived in Oxford Furnace. You didn't travel to Blairstown to see #6 about 4:57 PM. Instead you went south to Washington because several DL&W trains were re-routed after Hurricane Diane in 1955 via the Old Main and Phillipsburg Branch. They actually stopped #3 at Washington to board...

Oxford (Alan Wood) Mine Run

As I enjoy old age and retirement on a sheep farm high on a ridge above the Florence VT Omya limestone mills , I reflect how basically similar this operation is to what I remember growing up in Oxford Furnace. We've got the steady flow of the same little white and blue slurry tanks constantly flowin...

Marty - Thank you for the very complete reply to my question. It was a nice touch to add the final train order message. Jack lived in Vienna when his was assigned to MO by the way. Recentlly went home and visited the station which condition surprised me. Even more surprising was the main and siding ...

Check out mgdecals.com (Highball Graphics) for their set L-150 for the L&H C-420. They post a color diagram and note GN Big Sky Blue as "their" idea of the blue. However, I do agree with Marty that the BM blue is closer to actual as I rememeber it on the first few units I saw before mo...

Exaxctly when did Great Meadows close as an open agency? Was F. J. (Jack) Percicval the final Agent/Operator or had he already promoted to Dispatcher at Warwick? Wonder if any readers are old enough to know these facts? I moved to Vermont in 1966 and missed a lot of the final decade. Thank you. Joseph

Several months ago I posted the article that only one (1) former L&H employee hired on to Norfolk Southern when it absorbed their portion of Conrail - the article got dropped in March when this site was rebuilt. Someone in the L&H group knew who it was but because of privacy didn't want to r...
