Back in the 90's Norton had a couple of 80T GE's at that facility, any idea if they stayed on with St G?

Should be in addition to the 7324. It's got to be costly to shuttle a loco from N Stratford to Groveton every time there needs to be a move, I'm sure StL&A doesn't do it for free. I wonder if they could get the 44 Tonner back from the state? It's still lettered for them....

Arthur, thanks for the hint I found it very easily at UNH. The crossing was in an entirely different location than I thought it was. I was going by a rough map in the book The Rail Lines of Northern New England that showed it crossing at the nub in the very north western part of Pittsburg. The ROW i...

What's the early diesel loco north of Talkeetna on the left side of the rails?

Thanks for the insight. Where does one find old USGS maps? I've stared at Google Earth and loose the railbed before it gets to the tongue of NH where it crossed. I do want to check it out on foot. I've run into Border Patrol many time snowmobiling near the border, they don't get upset at all once th...

This line ran from the border at Beechers Falls VT to Lime Ridge Quebec, abandoned in 1925. It went from QC into a remote part of Pittsburg NH for .75mi and then back into QC. Does anyone know if there is any visible evidence remaining in Pittsburg? RIght of way or abutments etc. Google maps doesn't...

Took a field trip yesterday, which included covering the line from Whitefield to Lancaster to Groveton to North Stratford. In Whitefield, the line that extends to Hazen seemed to have had something run over it in the not too distant past. I was thinking...the storage track toward Hazen is not too f...

One the afternoon of 7/2 there were about a dozen or so LPG tankers in the N Stratford yard, one was pushed thru the engine house and was on the south side next to the flanger. 2 days later that number had easily doubled and NHCR was actually switching the yard on July 4. Don't know if they're comin...

Last Thursday there was only the flanger and 1 box outside the eng house. They had pushed the high cube boxes and the RDC that had been in the yard north to meet the other stored hoppers and boxes. There are still 6 or so hoppers and maybe 20-30 boxes left. I'm thinking they cleaned out the yard to ...

RS11 3601 is in a private collection in VT along with a few box cars and a caboose. I laid eyes on it 2 years ago. Unlikely it was scrapped.

The 6 hoppers were close to next in line when I was up there last, and 20 more boxes should get about 1/2 the remaining cars. I'm going that way tomorrow afternoon and will give a update when I get back on Friday. Hello, Just following up on the last two posts... Yesterday I followed the North Strat...

Looks like NHC is shipping the stored box cars off the N Stratford line. I was by there last Friday afternoon and there was a cut of 9 mostly ex Berlin Mills cars out on the interchange. Further up the line you could see the spots where they had been taken from and all the driveway crossings had fre...

The state of NH at one time owned at least 2 44 tonners, I believe the Goodwin unit was one. The NH Central 360 currently at North Conway is one of those. Maybe the same unit?

It's possible that what you saw could have been the state owned GE 25T that was on the North Stratford. The S1 and the 44T on the NS were both green with yellow handrails, so I'd go out on a limb and say that the 25T might also be the same color. Both lines were and are state owned so it's entirely ...
