No Septa signs were ever installed at GS, since the station wasn't publically accessible. I rode the RDC's during the winter of '81 when I was a day student. I'd ride down to Bryn Athyn and my mom would pick me up. Much faster than trying to ride a school bus to Johnsville and connect with a Septa b...

The Morning Sun book 'Reading's Anthracite Country in Color' had great photos by Arch and Bruce Kantner of the entire region and the LV bridges in particular. Can't give you any info on it at the moment, my copy is at home.......

It was just to the northwest of the CNJ station (now the Main St. Depot), either inside the 'square' or just to the north. If you look in the LNE Color Retrospective book, there's a picture of the station. The ramp is also gone, which makes it harder to place the photo, but the existing concrete off...

The CP yard is to the west of Broad St. If you continue south on Broad underneath I-95, you can see the yard off to your right. If the CP geep is switching the yard, you can see it from here. I don't know if you can see anything from FDR park, which abuts the tracks on the north side. That might be ...

The CP engine is now kept inside the 'Navy Yard' property and is not normally visible from outside of the Base. It's not all Navy property anymore, but guards are still stationed at the main gate. There's also a CP caboose (or van, if you prefer) stored inside as well. It also used to sit along Dela...

The other observation car is in Renton, WA (near Seattle) and used on the Spirit of Washington Dinner Train. See the following page for details:

Matt, Frank Reilly had some photos of this car included in the program he presented at the ARHS convention this past weekend. The coal bunker at the front end of the tender contained a pump for the deluge gun and a diesel generator to power the electric motor on the pump. If you haven't posted your ...

Sir Ray, the majority of the industry on the Frankford Branch was west of the Blvd. There was a lumberyard on the So. side of the tracks near the Jct. with the NY Short Line. The Bond Bakery was on the N. side of the tracks. The Exide Battery plant was on the So. side, across Rising Sun Ave. from th...

Those four units are the only ones that have been preserved by historical societies. There may still be more ex-RDG units out there, since many were sold to short lines throughout the US. Reading Diesels, Vol. 1 has a listing of all the RS-3's that were sold and their locations as of 1991 (which is ...

CNJ Photos in Phillipsburg

See LV in Color, Vol. 2, for pix of how the LV and PRR were situated in relation to the CNJ. The PRR had a connection that crossed the LV on a diamond and joined the CNJ on the south side of the tracks, almost directly across from the station. The DL&W met the CNJ about 75 yards west of the Unio...

At home I have a Reading Frieght 'schedule' book from the mid-50's that lists the freight trains, their starting and end points and any spots where they were scheduled to pick up or set out cars. I'll have to look for it over the weekend and see if it lists the times for the B&O freights. They m...

I believe that all B&O freights to NYC were routed up the Low Grade Freight Line from the Richmond Branch at Wayne Jct. and then up the NY Short Line from Newtown Jct. to Neshaminy Falls. There may have been an occaisional detour move, but nothing regular that I am aware of. The Reading freights...

American Street tracks

I tried replying to this post twice last week, and my laptop never let me send the final posting. This is part of the southern end of the ex-Reading Bethlehem Branch, originally the North Pennsylvania Railroad. Conrail did have a few customers in the early 80's, but the line died out shortly thereaf...

The current bridge is not the original, though. The concrete arch bridge was built in two sections. The first was a two-track section immediately adjacent to the original iron bridge. After it was complete, the iron bridge was removed and the second half of the concrete bridge was completed. There w...

The B-unit needs control wiring work and at least one new wheelset. We (the ARHS) have been waiting to get it to Bridgeton, NJ, for the wheel work. The SRNJ recently repaired the bridge on the direct (read cheaper shipping cost) route, but we now need to fit into the W&W shop's schedule before w...
