That former line you mention is the old Reading RR New York Branch (currently CSX Trenton Subdivision). Until 1981, two trains ran from Reading Terminal to Newark NJ. These trains were operated by Conrail under support of SEPTA and NJT (NJDOT). After funding was cut, the trains were cancelled. Howev...

NS JOBS

Try another railroad. Everyone I met that worked for NS (except one)
had nothing nice to say about the carrier. Even those who worked for
CR then NS after the split said everything went downhill.
NS style of management owes its roots to the Southern. Very
strict military top-down management.

Remnants of the old Pennsylvania and New Jersey Traction Co. are visible north of Yardley Pa. along Taylorsville Rd. At various points the ROW is visible along the west side of the road. Power poles use the ROW in many locations making identifying easy. The old Brownsburg substaion in Upper Makefiel...

P42's have an auto-stop/start feature to save fuel.
Usually when the engine is shut-off then is about to start
that beep is a warning alarm to watch that the engine is
starting.
It is possible that the alarm also sounds when it loads up
to charge the main reservoir or batteries etc.

The service disruption from the flooding today was south of Landover
Interlocking. Water had risen 4-5 feet above flood stage and
caused a small washout near the tracks which necessitated a
slow speed order by that site during the morning and early afternoon.

Amtrak up until several years ago staged two coupled FL-9's as protect engines in Penn Station for rescues. After the FL-9's were retired, several "Pumpkin" GP-7/9's were used as protect in a rotation. Now, since the Pumpkins were retired there has not been any protect engine in Penn Stati...
