Re: 2018 Massachusetts State Rail Plan

Inland Route seems to have evaded a lot of mention here. I'm assuming it'll better settle into the spotlight after Knowledge Corridor service begins to take shape. If MassDot is successful in developing/restoring Springfield as a rail hub, I'm hopeful we'll eventually see a push by MassDot to connec...

I'm curious about the timeframe here. Will be interesting to see when the crew released the track/got off their power.

the csx train had some authoroty to occupy the main to make their moves, and was the last crew to touch the switch. assuming the dispatcher did not issue overlapping track limits, the freight crew gave up their authority without/before normalling the switch.

Some thoughts in no particular order... negative thoughts- I think there is potential for this to be a success, but the likely scenario is it will be a novelty that eventually wears off. Look at Syracuse OnTrak for upstate failed commuter service. The vast majority of those that can afford to regula...

I believe this road was intended to be built as a narrow gauge line (3ft?). IIRC they built about a mile of demonstration track in Somerville.

A good friend of mine used to work at the Platform Bar & Grill in Northampton Station. Pretty decent food, and ED-2/PLED/EDPL go flying by in the late afternoon. Not really the season for outdoor seating anymore, but come summer it's nice to sit outside and watch the locals go whizzing by.

I drove by around Thanksgiving. All the cars are stored between Rice's Ln and the Rt 7a bridge. Other than the dozen or so residences "nearby" on Rice's Ln, these cars are "off the grid." It's a small town. When one person get a glimpse at a placard and yells, everybody can hear ...

Also, if you get a train, you should chase it. It could be the only one you'll see. 14R/11R run mostly at night. 11R may pop out west of Eagle Bridge in the early morning sun. Same goes for 14R east of east portal. 22k leaves Mechanicville early afternoon, and 23k runs after dark. RJED/EDRJ are 3 da...

Good info above... Pan Am only runs to North Bennington Sunday's now, if that. AD-1 no longer ventures to North Bennington, I think RJ-1 may still head east on Tuesday and Thursday but only as far as Hoosick Junction. XO-1 runs Sunday to conduct the interchange, and last I checked, does make it all ...

Well that's good to hear, both for M&NJ and NYSW. NYSW's NJ traffic looks like its fallen sharply over the last 5 years, hauling less trash and toxic dirt. They still handle a fair amount of trash but almost all of it is interchanged out at North Bergen and Croxton. The summertime evil dirt isn...

I'll toss Eagle Bridge into the running... clear view of the interlocking (CPF 448), and you never know if the Batten Kill will meander down to make an appearance. Vermont Railway has recently been making appearances there as well when running around their interchange drop.

NYS&W has been handling a fair amount of traffic off the M&NJ, the vast majority of it coming from Syracuse/Binghamton. To quote a higher up "I have no idea how we're gonna handle it if their business picks up like they're saying it will."

Between Poland Spring and now this Saint John news, has there ever been such great interest in short- and medium-distance intermodal using rail? Not just New England, but nationally. I used to think of it as just long-haul business, but that seems to be changing right here in New England. I believe...

that would surely have been interesting. had gmrc gained the cheshire, it would not have been unreasonable to piece together the peterborough branch between winchendon and gardner. would have made for a more contiguous "green mountain gateway" rutland-bellows falls-winchendon-gardner-worce...
