I have been having that problem at 33rd St. The new turnstiles won't accept my QuickCard but the old ones will. It is strange because the week before I had no problems whatsoever. The turnstiles at Pavonia/Newport work without a problem. I wrote an email to the PA and they advise that because the 33...

The green light means that the air brakes are in use (it goes out when they are released). The red light means that the side doors are unlocked and open. It goes out when the doors are closed and locked. A white light indicates that the hand brake is in use. You will see this in yards and terminals....

Yes, it keeps the train fresh - for your protection. :-) :-D

My guess is that the A will be local in Brooklyn on the weekend.

I think part of the problem on repair is that only 2 companies still make spare parts for the relays (and I am sure those parts cost big $$$). The newspapers report that TA engineers have found about 90 spare relays in the system. They will use these to create a basic signaling system. That means no...

If anything it has gotten worse. If there is a permit that you can get - GET IT before you come. Usually the MTA doesn't give permits for anything. Also just to let you know that the MTA board has proposed a total ban on photography on the NYC Subway. It will be voted on by the end of January. The p...

Considering the potential approval on the ban on Photography by the MTA you may have to settle for photos that have been taken by others.

To allow for the crowd to "thin out" a bit before they get to the staircases leading up. Otherwise there would be a mass of people trying to go in one direction while the people heading to the shuttle would be coming in the other. True you have this now but the distance creates space betwe...

Thanks, Otto; I had to shoot somewhat into the sun. I believe the Lo-V's had compressor problems and are sidelined, yes. At least today was mission accomplished. The problem wasn't the compressors. The previous M.O.D. trip the LoVs could barely make it up the lead from the 207th St yard. It turns o...

...snip.. Commuter trains would really benefit residents living there. As a long time Co-Op City resident I can tell you that commuter trains would not solve the problem. Most people would have to transfer to the subway anyway once they got to Manhattan. Given the choice of a premium fare to save m...

There isn't sufficient ridership on the weekends or on weekdays after 8 or 9 PM to warrant sending the J down to Broad St at all times (as it used to be). The #4 and #5 trains are only a block away on Broadway and the transfer at Brooklyn Bridge/Chanbers St is a relatively easy one.

There is no advance information. In fact some MTA employees who are railfans and post on some of the other boards have been warned not to give out any information.

You are just going to have to take your chances.

But then that would be par for the course for the Post or as it is more commonly referred to in some circles as the Pissed.

Why is it this doesn't give me a comfortable feeling?

Good I hope Peter Kalikow feels embrassed for proposing that stupid ban in the first place I told my mom and she told me its good to help the national security and she didn't care Peter Kalikow wasn't the one who proposed it. It was NYPD Commisioner Ray Kelly who proposed it to the MTA Board. Ever ...
