Could've had a free ride to Newark Liberty last Saturday; no one picked up the ticket before I got off. How often does that happen, I wonder?

No, it doesn't. Bourbonnais (correct spelling) was cited only as an example of a location with four-quadrant gates. I don't know why they're so unpopular, except that you can't drive around them, and having lived in Blue Island, that's a favorite sport, in spite of the stiffer fines put in place a f...

How about a FLY-OVER at BI Jct?!!! If only the money were there! Broadway really gets tied up! Thanks for the update!

Well, Jack, I'm a little older than you. Class of '66. Took M-N to GCT Saturday morning, and noticed a new set of signals (hate those M-N signals!) just north of the station. I think they're going to put in powered switches to help with movements in and out of the storage tracks.

A midwesterner at heart, here. Lived in Blue Island, IL for 20 years. Right now, living near MP 20 on the UP Harlingen (TX) Sub. Three or for northbounds a day. Hardly like Chi-town!

I lived in Blue Island until last July. I think you mean Broadway St., where Blue Island Junction is located. Looking from there east, I believe they're installing a third main track eastward towards Barr Yard. New signals were put up about three years ago, and the signal bridge east of Western Aven...

Rigby-Plaistow is already good for 79 MPH the way it is.

Yes, that IS expensive. But the upper Harlem was electrified in the not-too-distant past. What's so special about eastern Putnam county?

Thanks, Dutch. Sounds like "no immediate plan"! While I'm on the subject of the upper Hudson, when I used to hang out at Woodlawn tower in the 70's, way back then there was talk of electrifying up to P'keepsie. The topic has already been discussed here, I'm sure, but is there anything in t...

Hudson Line CP72-75 question

I'm at Marist College for a workshop; have noticed ribbon rail along side the controlled siding, waiting to be installed. It was there last year, also.
Anybody got any idea when this stuff is finally going to be put down?

Not so. In 1969, I rode from South Bend, IN, to Croton-Harmon by Slumbercoach. It was awful. Noisy, and bumping over lousy roadbed in many spots. Long stretches of 10 MPH slow orders, too.

Thanks for that info. Where, though, is the Harlem River Yard? Is it near the new M-N storage facility in Highbridge? Some people here have also asked me: where does the garbage go? I believe some of it goes as far as Buffalo (and beyond?), since a trash train got bottled up in some yard in Buffalo ...

Trash train thru Poughkeepsie?

I've been at a workshop at Marist College for several days. Sunday nite, around 8 PM, what appeared to be a southbound trash train went by the campus, pulled by two units (type unknown). I thought trash was only on the River Line, across the river. What's up? And anybody have a symbol for this train?

BNS Brookfield Sub question

by Rockingham Racer ¦  Tue Jun 08, 2004 10:26 am ¦  Forum: Midwestern Railfan ¦  Topic: BNS Brookfield Sub question ¦  Replies: 2 ¦  Views: 1851

What runs on this sub besides the Amtrak trains to Quincy? Train symbols would be helpful, as I'm working on a simulation of the Galesburg area.

Another question: What runs on the Peoria sub these days?

Thanks!

The air hose connection between two of the cars was probably broken, which would cause an abrupt, unplanned stop. Happened to me on a NY-Bos train seveal years ago in the Bronx. We hit a tie that someone had
place across the rails.
