Here are a couple of Haymarket pictures from the early days. The first looks toward the North portal from the N. end of the station The second shows the inner tracks also looking north. These tracks were used by the Lynn & Boston and some BERY cars from the north. There is another pair of tracks...

Actually, I posted it because it is a bit tricky. The car is correctly signed but would not normally pass that location. The reroute was in effect for a few months and involved a lengthy section of temporary track (on which this car is seen). I believe the picture was taken to illustrate the difficu...

I checked all the atlases I could find (look at "Dorchester Athenaeum" for atlases maps etc.) Before 1884 the maps are not good enough to be sure but from then on it is very clear that the tracks were below grade. From then on they also show the RR station crosswise above the tracks. I am ...

Remember,
Four tracks Dorchester Ave. to Harrison Sq., two tracks Harrison to Shawmut Jct. and
single track Shawmut Jct to Mattapan.

That's the right kind of reasoning but the wrong conclusion. It is between Andrew & Mattapan.

The accompanying excerpt is from a BTC photo that will soon be added to the file under discussion. It is so unlike now that I could not resist posting it as a quiz. All us Dorchester boys know the location but it doesn't look like that now. There is enough in the "Dorchester Extension" fil...

They missed that by over a hundred years.

Out of town Rail fan friends usually stay at the Motel 6 Boston South Braintree 125 Union St, Braintree, MA ‎ (781) 848-7890 ‎ which is adjacent to the Braintree Commuter rail station and also to the Red Line Rapid Transit Station. So, it is directly served from South Station and Downtown Boston, ac...
