Every time they do a project I regret it. Because every project goes way over budget. Because they just add to the debt. Remember, the MBTA is insolvent and should be in bankruptcy receivership.

Rubber tired road vehicles are superior to rail for stopping distance. They are worse for fuel efficiency, but that is nothing compared to labor & rolling stock cost. And rubber tires don't require PTC mandate or FRA regulations. Can't use the Grand Junction for trolleys, it is already being use...

Jorge Quiroga at 11PM on WCVB said they were busing between Eliot and "that station on Washington Street" (Woodland). They also interviewed someone who was on the train, who stated the operator locked the doors and they waited for the first responders.

It would have been interesting if you could disassemble these stations and move them to a new location. That sometimes happened in the pre-Amtrak days. Alas, the "durable materials" like cement and brick are not really modular. Also interesting is how it recommends leaving masonry walls ex...

PTC would need to know where tilting is not allowed, where tilting is restricted. So on some curves the active tilting might have to be tuned down, while on other curves you get to go "Full Tilt"

Great pictures! Those old red line cars (1400s?) were unbearably noisy! I've ridden those ancient blue line cars from the '20s in the '70s, but I don't remember if they were loud or what kind of seats they had. Those newer blue-line trains - why were they replaced? They look beautiful. How long were...

What happens if the tilt mechanism fails on one car as it's going into a curve?

Worcester seems to still have a standard looking station standing next to the renovated Union Station. I have no idea if it is used for storage, crew space or is unused.

The court ruling could be a face-saving way for the administration to change it's mind and go back to railroading. Or is that too much to hope.

Storrow Drive isn't going to be removed until we have flying cars like the Jetsons or if the Mass Pike gets rebuilt with higher capacity. Maybe Storrow Drive will get double-stacked underground with deep transit below just like the N-S raillink.

In Boston, the MBTA allowed the developer to call their new Commuter Rail station Boston Landing instead of Brighton. But the developer paid for the station (and picked the location). Years ago they renamed the Mystic River Bridge the (Maurice) Tobin Bridge, and the Cottage Farm Bridge became the Bo...

Obviously, BBD is in need of recapitalization. The obvious route is into eventual bankruptcy, with CRRC coming in as a White Knight or buying it from the estate. The Chinese are flush with capital from all the goods we are buying, and they are using that capital to buy up the remaining good companie...
