The green mountain they were serving was very good. Green Mountain is a premium brand, but seems to be disappearing. Friendly's Restaurants in the Northeast switched away from Green Mountain as well (perhaps Green Mountain's largest customer). Green Mountain bought Keurig in 2006, and was sold to a...

The cars are not compatible with the rest of the fleet and have an internal coupling setup that only works with the power cars and other Acela cars. The only "normal" couplers are on the A end(front)of the power cars. You could saw the ends off of one car & manufacture two special cou...

...The obvious question is - why is an owner who is already so wealthy keeping something that contributes very little to their bottom line, especially if they are not willing to run it like a real railroad? There are scores of similar size operations throughout the country that are run smoother, ha...

It's always sad to see stuff scrapped. You want it to find a second home where it makes financial sense.

Will Amtrak be able to keep them going until the replacements arrive?

I'm assuming VIA as a Canadian government entity has the ability to borrow money for capital projects at very low interest rates, in virtually unlimited amounts, depending on politicians.

Ok, what would the likely train speed be from Worcester to Lowell, Lowell to Nashua, assuming the track is upgraded? I know this has been addressed elsewhere, probably in the train from NYC to Maine thread.

Thanks Todd for getting the Memorandum of Understanding. It's really interesting. I don't know what Formula Grant Funds are. So they have to identify federal grant money to make this happen. Some of the grant money would be used for rolling stock no doubt, some would go to operating subsidy?? some t...

I would say electric traction should be inherently more reliable than diesel/electric. I would think an MU train would have more issues due to complexity than a push-pull, don't know if that would affect reliability tho.

Ask them when the Manchester proposal will be made public. I wish them well, I am only an observer. I might take a ride as a fan but probably won't use their service on a regular basis (unless I got a job in downtown providence). How long do the crossing gates need to be down before a train that is travelling 10MPH? How long would it take an 8-car train to clear a crossing if it is starting from a stop that is adjacent to the crossing?

The alderman at-large says it doesn't obligate the city in any way. I'll take that with a grain of salt. I guess since no other private enterprise is likely to come in and compete with BSRC, they don't have to worry about exclusivity? What is the memorandum of understanding? That the town/city won't...

AFAIK there are no plans to build a real south-side maintenance facility. Is there a project for that? How many $B? And the stated reason for WOR-BON is that BOS is full. Until the south station expansion is built, which requires real estate purchase that hasn't happened. [sarcasm]If BOS is full, th...
