Here ya go; base-loaded whips, on top of the long hood just behind the cab roof. (A close-up from one of my shots- I got that question from Bob Mohowski a while back, and I had to really dig through my stuff to find this. The whip is really hard to spot in photos...)

Not exactly a meat-packing plant- it was an abattoir. Chester Rendering Works- a slaughterhouse. No longer there (the site is now a Lowes), and it was a mile or so from the Erie sidings, so the cattle had to be trucked cross-town.

One word- parking.

Does this help? Bolted to the truck frame, hooked to a loop on the underframe. And yes, to keep the truck from separating in a derailment (on freight cars, gravity and the center pin were the only things holding the truck in place).

Fire was contained to a single room on the third floor. The rest of the story isn't good; once again, Middletown snatches defeat from the jaws of victory. The Community Health Center was in WAY over its head with the station. Over three years they only managed to secure a fraction of the money neede...

I haven't corresponded with Gif in several years, and don't have current contact information, but he's still with us. Lives in Virginia, doing relatively well, and will hit 90 years old this year.

The Bel-Del was all PRR trackage- the L&HR didn't own any part of it. They only had trackage rights, between Belvedere ('G' Tower) and Phillipsburg (the SE&P bridge over the Delaware, which they owned). The L&HR also built/owned Hudson Yard in P'burg, alongside the PRR main.
