Pertaining to all railroading subjects, past and present, in New Jersey

A friend of mine sent me this link.
This RDC is the M3, one of the first 4 RDC's purchased by the Susie "Q". We currently have the M1. M2 and M4 on our rails and would have liked to get the M3 to have the complete set. Our hope is the damage is not bad and they repair it and not scrap this historical piece.

The railroads next track extension is underway. Contractors have been on site since last Monday laying out and installing new ties. This extension will add approx 1 mile to the trip. The Railroad has been hauling passengers like mad, with the addition of Friday night trains on Dec 4th and 11th. More good things to come in 2016.

That's awesome. What mile post will that get you to?

Were currently operating to 43.2 that will get us around 42.2 First crossing (River Rd) North of Reigelsville.

I have a quick question... Correct me if I'm wrong... But I understand that your railroad the "Bel-Del" operates on the same railroad line as the Black river and western, that is simply separated by a long OOS section of trackage in the middle? With all this rebuilding going on by both railroads, how far apart are you guys? And after the BRW finishes it's "Alexuaken division" project and with you guys also rebuilding when will you meet? And if you do meet might there be a "golden spike" moment with two steam engines meeting? :-)

Conrail tore up the track between Milford and Lambertville, and unless they relay track over the rail trail on the old ROW between M and L (very very very unlikely), they will never meet.
You are correct in thinking that the BRW owns some ex Bel-Del track, but it is confined to the area around Lambertville.
You could bike between them though :-D
I have a question of my own though:
When you say MP 43.2, where is mile 0? Manunka Chunk? Trenton?
  by Donko142

Trenton... Many of the original MP are still in place. If you get a bite to eat at the old Milford Station, walk to the South about 100 yards. MP 35 is there and easy to see, MP 39 is at the Power Plant, MP 42 is just North of the Riegelsville Station site, MP 50 is approx 1/3 of a mile from Phillipsburg station.

Hope that helps, remember where always looking for more help..

Thanks!
I biked the rail trail from Lambertville south last weekend, and along the trail, I noticed that there was one number on one side of the old MPs, and a different one on the other. Now that I know that one is Trenton, where is the other end? Manunka Chunk? G tower in Belvidere? Somewhere completely different?
Thanks!

I ""Think"" 95% that is from Manunka, will check the books. Remember North of P berg the passenger trains were on L&HR trackage (shortly) until PRR trackage met the DL&W with trackage. PRR passenger trains had trackage rights to E. Stroudsburg

Hope that made sense.

The Black River Railroad System does own both railroads, which may have resulted in the confusion. Look at the info at this link for info including simplified track maps. http://www.bdrry.com/index2012.htm Hope this helps. As mentioned above, there is a substantial distance between the two that is not railroad property so the chance of ever connecting is extremely remote.

The Bel-Del was all PRR trackage- the L&HR didn't own any part of it. They only had trackage rights, between Belvedere ('G' Tower) and Phillipsburg (the SE&P bridge over the Delaware, which they owned). The L&HR also built/owned Hudson Yard in P'burg, alongside the PRR main.

I thought that (due to the MP) but someone had told me different at some point. Thanks I remember one day at steamtown I arrived and we had no steam, with time to kill I remember looking at one of the photo collections. There was a picture of PRR Bel Del steam being serviced on the DL&W. I think the photo was from Gravel Place, but this was 7 or 8 years ago.

On another note, the contractors are finishing up on the track extension. See photo picking up old ties and brooming the track about MP 42.3

On the way home I took a photo of MP 36, 1 mile North of Milford station. 36 from Trenton, 32 from Manunka Chunk

I am happy to see that stretch of track coming back, what a beautiful stretch that is by the river!

I hope we see the whole thing back along the river, all the way to Milford.
