Also, train sets are not locked onto one line. The next train out might have a set that is required to cover trains on another line.

Or maybe lease the Colorado Rail Car they tested (if it even exists anymore. I know the company doesn't.).

Dig around on the site here, there was a whole tread devoted to this subject. NJT was going to use it then didn't because it was flood prone (lived all my life in Rahway and never saw any flooding in the yard).

Stiles Street Yard has been used as an overflow yard for Port Reading in the past. I guess it could even have been excess cars for the tank car facility on the line there.

If you have a million or two to throw at the project, I'm sure that would sped things up.

Let's see, I can take the train (HOW MUCH for three [or more] tickets?!?!?!?!?), wait how long for a connection at Secaucus while the kids run wild on the platform (and don't forget the change in levels or platforms), hike to the mall, shop and then hike back to the train station with 4, 5, 6 or so ...

The local politicians will never ever allow the AC rail line to be permanently closed. South Jersey residents already feel that they get very little state services compared to North Jersey and shutting down South Jerseys only passenger train service will send them over the edge. South Jersey politi...

Don't forget about the light rail as well.

Haven't we griped here previously that NJT can never buy anything off the shelf that matches what someone else has been using successfully?

As much as NJT might want to rid themselves of the AC line, I don't see that happening. Two words: Norcross, Sweeney.

NJT rescued the line form Amtrak as a gift to South Jersey in exchange for things North Jersey wanted. Too much power between these two for anything to happen to the AC line.
