Track is being laid to Lakewood, yes? That's the endpoint for now?

Can someone explain the connector being funded in this grant? Is it upgrading an existing connection (of what?) or a brand new link? Thanks.

CtDOT got a good deal in rebuilding the P-40s. Look at the per-unit price of Amtrak's new diesels versus the like-new rebuilt P-40s.

I see the original contract award was $39 million. Anyone know if the price escalated thru unforeseen modifications or for other reasons.

State DOT pays for grade crossing upgrades and it knows how to waste $$$ very well. And I doubt CMSL will buy this rail line for car storage.

Have the rails in Garfield been lifted and the street replaced? Yes, all gone. Final nail in the coffin for any possible sort of saving. and the real point of absolutely no return is a residential structure already being built on the ROW in Passaic. You can follow the completely paved over ROW on t...

You can't make something out of nothing.
Quite right. I'd like to see trains on this line again but it's a prime candidate for conversion to a rail trail.

Let's see what NJT decides to do. I will gladly admit I was wrong if the NJT Board decides to buy new Tier 4 compliant diesel locomotives.

What were you saying about Murphy not being a clean environment guy?

The overhaul bids have been delayed until May and I'm hearing the project may be cancelled and the units scrapped in favor of buying new Tier 4 clean diesel locomotives.

You need to remember NJT's timeline -- no service to Andover before reconstruction is completed in 2027. And no plans, or funding, for reconstruction beyond Andover to the Delaware River. Scranton service is way way in the future, if it happens at all.

Any new pix? Newspapers are useless for following progress on this project.

Thanks for the additional details. I am shaking my head in disbelief that the rebuilt GP-40s will still be Tier 0 or Tier 1 pollution engines when NJT's new locomotives are meeting the current Tier 4 standard. I thought Gov Murphy is a big clean environment guy but it seems not to be true when it co...
