BUT!!! Their news butchers hawked good food!!! (Of course, the service was provided by DSG). They had a marble pound cake I just loved. When I remember the standard Germanic tray breakfast, I still think to happy memories. No cheap imitation flavored corn syrup ... honey, real fruit jams, and Danish...

Uhhh,

Whoever owns the reporting marks MLMX maybe? (See Jeff Lubchansky's photos...)

Timekeeping isn't a big deal; DISPATCH slots are.

The Overland route racetrack is one of the busiest in the nation. UP freight traffic from Seattle, Portland, the Bay Area and LA come together at Ogden. There is also the matter of buying new station property in Cheyenne, Laramie, and Ogden (all of whose stations are closed as rail facilities) and b...

Because IMNSHO, a routing that goes Houston-San Antonio-nothing for hours-El Paso is suboptimal, and does not service the metroplex.

Of course, Matt has it right ... until Mr Mineta is out of DOT, this conversation is a moot point.

Uhhh, Messrs Haithcoat and Norman

I still remember breakfast at Victorville in a UP dome diner. It was the summer of 1967, and I was coming home from a trip to Grandma's.

That was some French Toast!

Super Chief to pick up final COLA

As a youth, I was a member of the Pacific Railroad Society. They left the Super Chief alone, at least on A Day, other than not calling it the SC/El Capitan anymore. Two of our members went out to ride the last City of Los Angeles in to LAUPT. They started on the night of May 1 by riding to either Sa...

Mr 4014... As I stated in an earlier post, someone either in DOT or an engineer who is also a fan will have to do the modeling (or else destructive testing out at Colorado Springs). My suspicion is both heavyweight cars (especially Pullman sleepers) and lightweight cars after the initial move to str...

Matt is one of our resident Texans... Looking at a Texas RR Commission map (http://www.rrc.state.tx.us/divisions/rail/rail_map.html) shows me there are three routing choices (no matter whether you choose UP and predecessor lines or BNSF and predecessor lines): Houston-San Antonio-El Paso Houston- Br...

Lest we forget...

PC was before Staggers and deregulation...

If E units are your desire vice BN E units,

The Midland Railway in KS has CRI&P E-6A 630 and an E8 in service.

UP has a trio of E-9s that have been re-engined at least to GP-38-2 standards. (645 diesel, modern electrical cabinet, modern control stands)

Working the Q main from Kansas City to Saint Joe.

It was hauling a grain drag SB towards Murray Yard.

I stronglyr suspect there is a power sharing/leasing arrangement between NS and BNSF now.

I just called the good folks at Illinois Transit. Their experience is that modern (Amfleet forward) cars are engineered with computer modeling and JUST MEET Federal crashworthiness standards. After all, additional metal=additional $$$$$. Older cars (even including Budd and P-S stuff of the 50s) reli...

No news...

Timetable is dated 27 October...

Only indicator is the date you mention is about the date of periodic timetable switchover.

I'll believe it when I see a news release... and the most recent news release at the Amtrak website is 17 March.

OK

First, to Mr Conrail 4014... Pullman-Standard, long ago, communicated to the Illinois Railroad Museum an incredible number of erection drawings. How big this pile is I truly do not know. Second, I'm going to check the forward going history of both Pullman-Standard and Budd. I think we shall find tha...
