The last time I took it in for the required annual inspection the jeweler told me he had to make a part for the required repair as Hamilton had long stopped manufacturing movements and parts. The estimated cost of the repair prompted me to purchase the new wristwatch as the purchase was no longer as...

A few years ago Ciment de Quebec was distributing product from a facility in Portland at SLR's East Deering yard. When it closed there were comments about their ability to compete with Dragon while another commenter remarked that Ciment de Quebec could make more money selling product to China. I thi...

I hired on in the Maine Central's Signal Dept. in 1976 and when I bid in a signal maintainers job in '77 I was required to have an approved watch and new ones were a week's pay. Many of the men carried pocket watches and I was introduced to a retired section foreman who dealt in used watches and bou...

If G&W wanted to merge the separate railroads it would have to get permission from
the STB; it would be simpler to just coordinate operations between the different properties.
There are already restrictions in place regarding what it can do with B&E in conjunction
with NECR, P&W, et al.

I've got photos I took of 40209MW and the PTM boom idler car in the yard at Old Town three years ago and it was still there last week. It's not part of the wreck outfit- it is a work crane used to move material at construction jobs, rail and tie projects, ditching with a clamshell bucket, etc. Simil...

Crews have rebuilt the track through 6 of the 7 street crossings in downtown Auburn so far this week but it looks to be a work in progress as track between the crossings is still the old rail. The track in the crossings has been raised- Court Street has about a 8-10 inch hump with temporary pavement...

Living in western Maine I'm not able to observe Bangor area operations often. I was under the impression that the local based at Old Town was handling the work at Bucksport. If their routine required running directly from Bucksport to NMJ or vice versa then a run-a-round would be necessary while Old...

Back in "old" Maine Central days pre Guilford when Bangor Yard was active trains to and from Bucksport and Calais didn't change ends. Eastward trains backed out Bangor Yard until the train was clear of Calais Jct., then once the switch was thrown pulled forward onto the branch and proceede...

Found crew with 7605-7542 working at Danville Junction this afternoon and followed then to Gray;
photos of westbound crossing New Gloucester intervale and approaching Penny Road overpass.

Times can very widely, 393 through South Paris as early as 6 PM and as late as midnight, based on when the Canadian crew is estimated to arrive at Island Pond. That in turn is dependent on when CN decides to make deliveries to Southwark yard in St. Lambert, PQ ( across the river east of Montreal ) a...

Eastbound Canadian crew with 394 arrives at IP late Monday afternoon and goes on their rest. US crew operating as a turn takes 394 east to Berlin and swaps trains with the crew that brought 393 up from Lewiston Jct. Each crew then returns to their point of origin, each arriving early AM. When the Ca...
