People can push, but they won't get very far. There are strategic and national security reasons for the Rockland Branch to remain open as a railroad.

Once the plant has completely shut down — and assuming that another company doesn't buy it and restart it — there could potentially be at least a year of additional freight business for the Rockland Branch in the form of scrap metal, C&D, and "dirty dirt," as was the case when Maine Ya...

Some fair-use quotes from the Village Soup article: The plant will continue to operate while it processes the remaining product which could continue into early 2025 . . . . . . The reason for the decision to close is due to the high cost of fuel to operate the plant as well as the fuel to transport ...

Are there any CSX locos headed to New England to replace the PAR locos that are going to B&E?

When I started railfanning in 1998, Guilford's GP9s were 42 years old and were widely considered "antiques" by railfans at the time.

Today, the PAR GP40s headed for B&E are 55 years old.

I remember them. They were configured for long distance service. In addition to curtains, they also had foot rests and extra legroom. The legroom was really the only substantive difference between those cars and the cars we have now.

Even though the Horizons are newer, there's something about them that makes them feel older than the Amfleets. I think the harsh fluorescent lighting is at least partially responsible for this. Here are interior shots of an Amfleet and a Horizon, both having received new seats in 2019: Amfleet_Inter...

Beautiful scenery, dramatic clouds, a bright locomotive and a short old-timey-looking train... who could ask for anything more? :-)

Why is he saying that the locomotives are using "vegetable oil" and that it's Pan Am's fault? Neither comment makes any sense.

According to the letter submitted to the legislature by Bruce Sleeper of Trainriders Northeast (which is also available on the legislature's web site), the state "packed" the Mountain Division Reuse Advisory Committee with pro-trail / anti-rail folks, and he claims that's why the committee...

Could be just a stock photo... or perhaps Wabtec is taking a subtle dig at Progress Rail, e.g., "This heavily pro-EMD holding company is now buying locomotives from us! Suck on that, losers!" 😂
