When I was working at Sperry, now over a decade ago, when we worked the Amtrak line in Michigan there was a pretty nice hotel in Kalamazoo that would let us stay using the Amtrak price, it was a Marriott if I remember correctly. A nice change from the usual Super 8's and Travel lodges we stayed at.
Call the RR retirement board, they can explain the nitty-gritty details of what will or won't happen if he leaves RR service. I've always had good luck with my local branch, the folks there always seemed ready to help the best they could. As to what to do if the layoff comes, I would look to see if ...
Now that Vermont has money to extend the Ethan Allen to Burlington, http://www.timesunion.com/tuplus-local/article/Amtrak-service-from-Albany-to-extend-to-7412724.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is it possible that we may soon have three daily trains between Montreal (m...
Here is a quick MS Paint schematic of the Rutland area, for reference. It is, obviously, not even close to scale :-D and is missing yard and customer tracks. For reference, Center Rutland is MP 56, Rutland Station is approx. MP 54.3, the north leg of the Rutland wye is at MP 54. Rutland Tracks.jpg T...
You would think that info needed for the UP loco to "log on" the BNSF PTC system could have been part of EDI data message from UP for that detour train. Suspect that a "cloud" type server shared by all Class 1 RR's for just Loco Data will be needed, SOON! Just need Railin...
We've heard about this extension "hoping to be" for MANY years now. Hopefully this will finally get it done. I think though they should have considered a stop at Shelbourne as it is a self-contained little town like Middlebury where one can walk to museums, stores, and lodging. Buses from...

Is that the one that has both VRS and PW logos on it?
The link below is a picture of a rather major failure on a rental SD60, I wasn't on the crew of the train with the failure, but following them in a second section. The unit was shipped out to a shop and had its motor changed, and is back online working away. When the connecting rod bearing failed th...

Paddington, like the railbuff bear from the books and movies. Thats the one people call me to my face, I'm sure there are others they save for my absense!
Picked up both of these books, along with a few Rutland prints, from Mr. (and Mrs. it should be noted) Collora at the Springfield show. I'm very glad I did, lots of interesting photo's in the books, well worth the reasonable price! I will definantly pick up any future releases!
The simple answer would be to bill them empty in advance of loading. However, to get to the point where the interchanging carrier(s) will accept such a move will take a fair amount of negotiation and coordination with their marketing and car control departments. The negotiations could be easy and fa...
It's the old MOED. I believe the west/southbound counterpart is the 11R (EDMO). The original 14R ran Enola-East Binghamton. Now, it is a Enola-East Deerfield train, replacing CP's 253 and PAS's MOED.
Ah, perfect, another addition for the library! Much obliged for the link.
*edit* Which if I had re-read the first post, I would have seen referenced. Doh!
