The line was sold in '97, or '98. to Illinois Railnet, or Illinois Scabnet, as I call it. When it was sold, I got cut off in Aurora, and was forced to Galesburg. The same outfit took over the Rockford Branch. It happened about the same time that Cicero hump closed. It turned out to be a blessing tha...

The connection in W. Chicago is no longer uesd. There is still lots of local work. I worked the line in '97, and switched industries in Batavia.
Just before the line connected with the CNW, it crossed the EJE. That diamond is out.

Downer's Grove yard used to be for suburban trains. Years ago some of them tied up there. The tower was used in pre CTC days. There was also a 4th main west of there.

I think that the GP40 (-2) fleet is the best. They were able to get the units cheap. Most of the class 1 lines got rid of the non -2 units in the last few years. It appears that Guilford like its one size fits all power. The GP40 is suitable for road and locals. With a fairly small roter, it would b...

I know that they intended to buy 60 GP9's. EMD could not deliver that many, so the reminder of the order was split between Alco and FM. Why didn't NH give the remainder to just one builder? Could Alco or FM only supply 15 each. It appears stupid that New Haven ended up with 3 makes of units to maint...

My uncle said that he was on the ship as part of a railfan trip in the '50's. He said that the there was a framed copy of the prayer said at the launching. I have heard that the term "Rat Fink" is from someone in his family. They were all PRR officials. They were known for turning people in...........

You don't have to believe it to repeat it!

In about '97, EMD was celebrating an anneversary. Iwas living in Naperville, IL, working for BN then. I went ot an open house at La Grange then. I remember that the same time Trains ran a series of articles about the key people of EMD, isn the beginning. One was about Dick Dilworth, but one was also...
