Several RDC Units that were acquired by the Town of East Angus, Quebec in a settlement with a former tourist train operator have been sold for scrap for anywhere from $13000 - $20000. The cars were scrapped this week. Link to a Video Clip of the destruction. Sad! http://medias.tva.ca/stations/chlt/n...

What was the gauge for the railway?............The locos in the pictures appear to be standard gauged. At least in size if not wheel gauge. The railway was 3'-6" guage. The locomotives are narrow gauge and resemble a GP9. There are several exhibits across the Island of preserved equipment but ...

CN 900 is one of many of the old engines that are still in existence. The others have been restored or scrapped. CN 900 is slated to be sent to the scrapyard, if no one takes her before the new year. At least that is my understanding of her future. This just posted to the Nfld_Rwy Yahoo Group (Nov ...

I believe VIA has bigger plans for Windsor and doesn’t want to waste money on renovations at the present location. A new station is proposed as part of the Windsor Gateway project that would see a station located so it would have direct access to the rail tunnel and an eventual link-up with Amtrak i...

I think the only interline route now is the Maple Leaf as you would need a separate coupon for travel on the VIA portion from Niagara Falls to Toronto. The Adirondack and Cascades are Amtrak only trains and probably don’t need a separate coupon from the border to Montreal or Vancouver. (Will Amtrak ...

As several members have noted, Montreal Gare Centrale is a separate street level structure that I once saw during 1956 before the Queen Elizabeth was built. I have found exterior photos of such on the web in the past..........................Possibly, armed with my recollection that they are "...

4. Gare Centrale (Central Station) in Montreal has a large, architecturally interesting, and somewhat dimly-lit waiting room, but other than that it's the basement of a big office complex and connected to a large underground shopping mall. Plenty of food and beverage options are available. The stat...

In regards to the international, it was a alternating via and amtrak trainset for a while............... VIA’s xCN “Tempo” equipment was used for awhile on the International in the mid ‘80s. Yes, when the service was first revived in the Amtrak era as the Adirondack , it included a leased CP dome that ran between Montreal and Albany. Amtrak also used leased CP “Chateau” sleepers on the Montrealer and on trains between New York, Florida and Chicago in the mid ‘70s. These are the same ca...

Yes, Quebec City would be an interesting trip with lots of 90-95mph running too. You would also get a chance to sample the new “Renaissance” equipment. The scenery is similar to that on the run to Ottawa until just before Ste-Foy where you cross the massive Quebec Bridge then wind down off the cliff...
