Not sure if this qualifies here or interurbans. Virginia Beach's last rail line was discontinued 10 or so years ago. It ran a branch off that ran into the south part of Virginia Beach, that was abandoned almost 75 years ago. A lot of old railbed can still be found. Attached is an old news article ab...
Found this link with a map of the old Liberty Bell route. Nicely done.

Ok, being an old Philly firefighter, and retired from firefighting, I have a decent eye for detail. Looking at the Hidden City Philly site, I found this photo: 4th-and-morris-1968.jpg This is the second photo I have seen of a maintenance vehicle with a siren. Any ideas why? Being a red light geek, I...
The signal at Philmont is the Standard Station Stop Signal mentioned by KJ above; it was operated by the waiting passenger and I assume restored by the conductor or trainman after the train stopped, and served only to inform the engineer that a passenger was waiting. The signal at Hatboro (which ha...
Looking at subway stuff, and noticed LIRR runs on third rail. How is it protected from kids playing on the tracks? I used to hang around the Reading as a kid, and well know the attraction of kids and trains. I can see some kid with a coathanger poking the thing.
Don't see anything about it here. Rail service is gone, and the switch out on 143 has been removed. Back in the 1999-2001 timeframe, there were several old Reading MU cars stored on the base, visible off Yorktown Road near the old Lackey gate. Any ideas?
Ok, rolling blackouts. How many people will stand for that?
Make sure any railroad job you take is not covered by Railroad Retirement or you will lose your whole pension for that month. Otherwise it is not a bad idea. On Tri-Rail the conductor's biggest job is opening and closing the doors and handling the handicap bridge plates when needed which is fairly ...
So what's it like working for Sunrail? Retired from up north, looking for something part time, conductor sounds like it would be fun.
Found a guy who has two for sale on ebay. A bit pricey. Has good photos showing the series wiring, converted to parallel: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1920s-MULTI-COBALT-BLUE-5-Cluster-15-Porcelain-Industrial-Barn-Light-TROLLEY-/263238576377" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Came ...
So the bulbs would be wired in series. with power from the trolley overhead?
Recent article about a trolley and it's origins. Ideas?

Going back, I remember the turnarounds at Carpenter and Wayne Ave (there are still tracks seen), Ogontz Ave, Mermaid Lane, and Willow Grove Park. Something that sticks in my mind are the floodlights they used at night. Large metal reflector with 4 bulbs in it. Anyone seen anything like that? I'm a f...
Gurney St cut has been cleaned up, used to be heroin and homeless camps. Kinda admire the "scorched earth" approach..... Link to article: http://www.philly.com/philly/news/crime/its-gone-now-gurney-street-heroin-camps-mostly-cleaned-up-20170901.html" onclick="window.open(this.hre...
