The sled has been long removed, it is just a shell on the inside. It is due to be scrapped later this year along with a plethora of other pieces of equipment.

Not every piece of equipment, even with a little bit of railroad history, can be considered worthy of being kept. If anything, less is more.

Tracks 9 through 12 are electrified in L.I. City Yard.

There were additional MU trains over the summer that were rerouted to Hunterspoint Avenue, and there is currently at least one Far Rockaway morning train that was diverted to Hunterspoint Avenue/L.I. City Yard effective January 8th.

to control speed, you need territory with equivalent of Cab/atc , the area in question does not have the ATC part like northeast /lirr/mn /njt etc That’s understood, dutch. I was just giving an example for something in ATC/ASC territory. It is pretty obvious that this section of track did not have ...

There are scenerios where fixed signals now display an aspect specifically for a curve/speed restriction. On the LIRR, certain signals that were recently installed on the Montauk Branch are set to display Approach-Medium to protect certain curves right outside of the interlocking limits. I could cer...

Look at a map. Making this curve faster is pointless. There is an interlocking ahead, and more curves in between. The signal they knocked down was undoubtedly showing limited clear or medium clear, which would have been the case with our without the curve. Big picture. Crashing where they did is wa...

Prayers to everyone involved in this. Very sad to see something positive for service be met with such a terrible debut. As far as how long these sets are, if I remember correctly, the business class car(s) is/are up front. I believe there are 2-3 revenue cars upfront (business class and possibly qui...

I heard through the grapevine that damage to the rail head from a prior NS freight train caused a break to the rail, but the circuitry stayed intact allowing for a false positive.

This car basically shot through a hole that no car should ever be near. You have to drive up on a curb, and that gap is barely wide enough for a car. It's basically a one in a million chance. I don't know why you always throw things way out of proportion when it seems you have no actually knowledge ...

Current passenger locomotives in America (P42, HSP-46, DE30AC, etc) are already incredibly heavy and long locomotives. What would end up happening is getting smaller engines, which would require more engines per train and the added cost of having to run more of everything.

As has been established, the current Acela train sets are very expensive to maintain, and are a maintenance headache at that. They're going to be basically worth more as scrap once the new stuff is initiated.

I don't know where or when you got your "slummy" definition, probably from not actually being in the area within the past 5 years. It is already a completely different area all the way down to the water.
