I would assume lakeshoredave means the Chicago-New Orleans mainline.

The transfer to North Station from Back Bay shouldn't take too long (right?). No, just hop on the Orange line subway, it goes from North Station to Back Bay. It should take less then a half hour. Downeasters - are they running the Amfleets with the 2-1 business class / cafe center / table section c...

Lower level seating is for people with mobility problems. People who would have a difficult time going up the circular stair to the upper level of the coach. I wouldn't recommend the lower level if you want the full Superliner experience. I got stuck in the lower level on a full City of New Orleans....

It doesn't take more then 15 minutes to back off the Airline into Union Station. Personally, I don't mind the back up move, and think that the money for a direct connection could be better used somewhere else to improve rail service in Illinois.

I'm fairly sure UPS contracts with the railroads to move some of their shipments. I've seen UPS TOFC shipments running around the Chicago area, and I used to see them on the CN/IC mainline through here.

What is the transfer between trains 449 and 49 at Albany like? The transfer at Albany is a cross-platform transfer. Basically you grab all of your belongings from your seat on 449 and walk over to your sleeper or coach on train 49. I do not check baggage so I am not sure how Amtrak will handle bagg...

Like most other state projects, the rail service expansion originally scheduled for October 1st has been moved to sometime in late October or sometime in early to mid November. An announcement is expected soon on an official start date.

Amtrak has not announced a name or schedule for this train yet. I'm not sure about the Springfield or Quincy service, but I have an idea about the Carbondale trains. Possible times for the northbound have it leaving Carbondale in the early morning and arriving in Chicago in the early afternoon. The ...

First, welcome to my hometown of Champaign-Urbana! We have two rail lines that run through Champaign-Urbana. One is the Canadian National/Illinois Central “Mainline of Mid-America” which runs from Chicago to New Orleans. The other is a NS branch line that runs from Mansfield (30 miles west) to Urban...
