Bigfreight,
Thanks for the update. Is this the first time that NHCR has run down to Presby in winter? Usually it seemed that they shut down operations to there during this time of the year.

Any additional happening in the North Country?

Brooks,
Has the customer in Portland, CT begun shipping out asbestos yet? This was the new shipper by the construction debris facility.

BigFreight,
Are those IATR boxcars being stored out by Hazens?

I was in Whitefield and the surrounding area over the holiday weekend. Spotted in Hazens was an empty covered hopper car- there are still cars stored in Whitefield and Lancaster. Drove up thru Groveton to North Stratford, following the St. Lawrence and Atlantic main line, and saw a string of tank ca...

BigFreight, I enjoy your posts- I have family in Whitefield, so I always like to keep a tab on everything that is going on up there. Were those 11 hoppers stored cars that were recently activated? Any other talk for business on the line? Also, for those that are interested, there are some great vide...

They still have a small yard in Alexandria- I believe they serve Virginia Asphalt as well as other customers.

GoKeefe,
Thanks for the clarification on your remark.

Looks like the potential of the Mountain Division, if anything would come to fruition, would be segmentation of the line. West of Whitefield/Hazen freight operations and Western Me freight operations.

GoKeefe, What are the stone loads you are referring to? I have family in Whitefield, NH and I always wonder about the potential for rail activation/reactivation up there. Guilford (MEC) still owns track from the VT state line to Whitefield (I believe) with the state owning the rest. As for traffic p...

BigFreight, Thanks for the updates on the line- I enjoy and appreciate them! After the news of the G&W acquisition of RailAmerica, I have pondered the potential future benefit of the line, as it would be a 90 mile link between the STL&A in Groveton and NECR in White River Junction- via St. J...

"Severing or abandoning the network of branches between Woodsville, NH and Whitefield that fanned out to Groveton, Berlin and St Johnsbury seems shortsighted. The paper mill traffic at the ends of the NH branches is not be what it used to be, but with VRS taking over the CP and upper Conn River...

Ferroequinarchaeologist, You are absolutely correct with your statement on the abandonment of the line between Woodsville and Berlin. What is interesting to note is that there has been *talk* about reactivation of the line for VRS from St. Johnsbury thru North Concord, Gilman and South Lunenburg to ...
