A clean toilet.
The "Voice of Vladimir" linked coverage by Mr. Litz includes an "as it happened" video. I must respect Col. Perkowski's request of no speculation, but whatever the outcome, the outcry for PTC will be heard in legislative halls about the land. Funny how the industry "suppose...
Not buying the sexist claim. Women call it sexist when men enjoy it, but will use their sexuality to manipulate and persuade in order to get what they want at the drop of a hat. It's a wacky 70's attendant uniform, if not for the train (and Casey freaking Jones apparently) in the background I would ...
When I read "BNSF Grudge" I thought of something else. Like them not dimming their headlights when you meet them on double track or their conductors not giving you a rollby...
UP Los Angeles has their sweet Basin Agreement but it's weird. Not all of the LA Service Unit gets it, just guys who actually work in the LA Basin IE Downtown, Long Beach, Dolores... West Colton doesn't count. But for the guys who get it their basic day is like 289 miles or something. Of course, whe...
Where I'm at the Rapid Responder is a sweet gig. 3 on 3 off at $85k per year. Or so I'm told
The Inward Facing Cameras are tied to the outward facing one. Meaning it's recording ALL THE TIME. Now, my MRO told me that when he downloads a locomotive, it does not give him the images of the inward facing camera. That's part of the deal supposedly. If the train hits somebody or goes on the groun...
As far as I know, they are all analog display, drafty, squeeky, and austere. There isn't really anything to like about a 70M. Probably the nicest thing about a 70M is the gigantic dash board forward of the conductors desk. You can almost put all of your stuff on it and still see out the window; or y...
Why not just make them heavier? Part of the problem is they are much lighter than a locomotive, when they hit something there is a greater chance of the Cab Car derailing instead of just pushing whatever it hit off of the tracks.
I'll put it this way: if you're a conductor and call for a pilot they will tell you "your engineer is your pilot". If you're a hoghead, and need a pilot....well they will give a few round trips and bam, you're on your own. My first time yarding a train in west colton I called for a pilot. ...
Go be a Conductor. Where I work the Trainmen Extra Board pays $100K a year. I'd say it's a bit better than $19/hour...
I also live 2 1/2 hours away from my terminal. I just watch the boards and leave when I'm 2nd out or something. It's hard at first, but you'll adapt. That's what people do.
The most challenging part is being familiar with your surroundings. Let's say you jump on a road pool and take a train to a terminal you've never been to before and you have to yard the train and take the power to the roundhouse. That's pretty challenging when you've got no clue where things are and...
A lot of people will tell you one of the two railroads is better than the other, usually BNSF is more popular among outsiders than UP for whatever reason. The truth is they are basically the same. You'll have a good career with either Company. The craft in question, Signal vs Electrician is up to yo...
I don't want to ruin it for you but, the best part about UP's new hire process....wait for it...they give you a free hi-lighter. I know, it's exciting. lol good luck, study hard, make some friends and have fun. It's a serious profession but that doesn't mean you have to be a serious asshole. Just st...
