Re: Regional rail to Pottstown

Thanks. Isn’t it safe to say, though, that dispatching has improved dramatically since the last time there were passenger trains on the Reading line in that area, plus there are simply many less trains nowadays? And, let’s be honest, the old Reading line, in most given areas, doesn’t have trains on ...

I have a few questions about this Did NS actually pay for the former rail line to Reading, or was it “acquired” via Federal law? Isn’t it true that in many other parts of the country, passenger service shares track with freight? (I own John Pawson’s book and have seen some of his quotes in Wikipedia...

I hate to say it, but now that this unfortunate event has occurred (the damage to the trains), does anyone think SEPTA will slowly start shutting down some of the smaller and/or less frequently used lines, under the auspices of "You can just take the bus," permanently ? Are they truly Hell...

SITE ADMIN: I'll leave the report up for the moderator to deal with, but let's all move on from the race issue. The OP may have felt it pertinent to disclose out of an abundance of caution; let's leave it at that and move on. We don't need to belabor the point; IMHO the bigger issue is non-collecti...

I'm new to this board so not aware if there are any standing racial issues or any past abuse of playing with cards. My question still stands. How does you being white and the conductor black matter in this situation? I do not see how mentioning this would prevent any insinuation of card playing, no...

It's common for conductors, drivers, and operators to let kids of 1/2 price (Or full fare on city transit) age ride free. I've experienced this in Chicago, New York, New Orleans, LA, Boston, SEPTA, and on NJT. It's a kind gesture that usually doesn't get any attention or concern from anyone normal....

SEPTA providing free trips

Can anyone explain the logic behind a SEPTA conductor providing me with a free ride for my two kids on the way to the auto show this morning? I appreciate the kind gesture but I wonder why they are giving free rides when they are constantly broke. FTR I am white and the conductor was black.

Full service to Bethlehem may never see the light of day again but I'd be surprised to never see service above Lansdale. Sooner or later, the railroad will have 'caught up' in terms of state of good repair and technology mitigating the downsides of not being electrified will continue to develop. It...

I'm surprised SEPTA's okay with that. On Long Island if a scheme like this was proposed the LIRR would be against having to build an additional station and make an additional stop that would further delay trains. Did SEPTA actually pay for this new station or did the local municipality foot the bil...

Correct, Perkasie I believe.

Casey lives in Folsom and takes the Elwyn Line. Maybe some day Knueppel will take the Perkasie Line.

I read he lives in Perkasie. Hopefully that means he understands the struggle of a community that lost its passenger service.

Doesn't Joe Casey live near Wawa?

I am lucky enough to have the John Pawson book as well. I treated myself to it as a birthday present. However, if we rely on the stats in Wikipedia, we clearly see that ridership on the diesel portion west of Norristown was very low in the early 80's (in this case very low means 75 boardings a day o...

Oh but Wolf - and his party - cares deeply for the working class, and public transit - right? Sorry if that comment makes this political but were he to win I would expect him to care about such issues... Right?

Replacing trolleys prematurely helps keep SEPTA from having to deal with that pesky concept known as restoration of service.

I agree with the above poster. If SEPTA could get some "manna from heaven" to help them knock off some of the larger, more necessary backlog of system improvements/stabilization, then they would presumably have less excuses to defer/ignore expansion (or, more applicably, restoration) proje...
