The connection between the South Lake Union Streetcar and the LINK Light Rail at Westlake will be via a serpentine crosswalk, as this is where 5th Ave ha a Y intersection with Westlake, as well as Stewart Street intersecting there, other than that, the station is across the street. The maintenance f...

I hope they can sell more, it does look impressive.

Re: Colorado Railcar DMU Status

I admit I liked the cars so that maybe SOUNDER could run them on mid-day services(or use them to start running mid-day services), and on the Everett line, and maybe some other routes around here. A THink Tank, the Discovery Institute/Cascadia Project proposed using something like this on the now sev...

I understand why the MKCC did what they did in 2002, but I was against it then. Their reasoning was nobody will ride if it was not there, but at the time, nobody would ride the bus in the suburbs when gas was $1.50 per gallon. Seattle has had higher ridership, and it dates back to the era that makes...

Some of the Powers that Be include the NIMBY's on the Eastside Line that would rather see it turned into a trail than more train traffic pass through. If it were upgraded, especially to run faster outside of the Bellevue-Redmond-Kirkland area, we could have a SOUNDER loop. As for the South Lake Unio...

It is ironic that some of these routes were once done before. It is one of the reasons anti-Light Rail people have their problems with it, forgetting that two of their alternatives, have their beginnings in the 19th Century as well, Monorail and Buses. The 98 already runs on the route of the old Pac...

That's the line. The mayor wanted to call it the South Lake Union Modern Streetcar, but that would have given it another acronym. On a local forum we were talking about what if this ended up in Ballard, and another Light Rail line had taken over the route of the monorail, the name for the hub in Bal...

84% of people riding who were carded by the inspectors used a Metro Pass or Transfer, interesting. Wonder how many more riders they would have if the line went to King Street Station? At least the Central Line will connect the two. Here is an older Op-Ed where someobody suggested using Guided Light ...

I have managed to ride it a few times, and it is interesting. I think it does seem to look like it has lower ridership than what Metro and the city are saying, but I think it still has potential, especially if extended to the University District to the North, and South to King Street Station to link...

I would like to see more bidders in the process, so there is competition, so it can help get down some of the costs of Commuter Rail lines down. By the way, how are Metrolink's new Cab Cars coming, are their any photos other than a few artist sketches available?

Outside of the NEC, could Catenry be built with just the clearance needed for double-stack container trains to move under wire? I mean right now would be a great time to study it. I do not know if the Milwaukee ever tried Double-Stack trains on their electric territory, but the Little Joes were pret...

The BL20GH is for both, worktrain and passenger branchline service. It has the MTU12/4000 for propulsion and a Caterplillar C-15 for HEP. Seems like a good locomotive for the job. Don't need a SD70, PL42, or a Genesis for Branch-Line duty. I also have wanted to see what this locomotive would look l...

I was just wondering, are these going to be used for Work-Train service, or are they going to be used for Branch-Line services on the New Haven Line? If so, I guess it will be interesting to see another possible locomotive builder in the US Market for passenger/commuter trains.

In this era of increasing gas prices, it might eventually see Long-Distance Passenger services worth privatizing. Right now, with the skeletal network, I would not try it. I would like to see the Grand Luxe Limited Experiment be given a chance, at least 1-2 years.

SOUNDER Service improving

Last week was the September Service Change for local transit agencies in Central Puget Sound, and SOUND TRANSIT rolled out 1 new round trip on the rush-hour flow for each of the two SOUNDER lines, plus the City of Destiny, the first Seattle-Tacoma reverse commute. Great to see that happening. I rode...
