That Colorado Rail Car unit is history, burned up. Something like the Riverline cars would make far more sense, and NJT (or BBD) knows how to maintain them.
It shouldn't be too difficult to build an electric-DMU that could run on diesel east of Camden, then switch to DC third rail to get into Center City, via the PATCO line. This would eliminate the danger of third rail outside of the tunnel, and offer a one seat ride into the city. If the car floor and...
Aren't there two stations on the West Trenton line that pretty much share a parking lot? That sounds like a train length to me.
Too bad they scrapped those six Jersey Transit cars; aside from the 'borrowed' trucks they didn't look that bad. I've seen worse looking cars still in service.
I've never seen Comets and MLs in the same revenue train. Equipment moves, yes, but NJT does not mix them up. Now, in Boston MBTA does mix MLs and single level cars.
What good would running to Bayhead do when your destination is NY Penn? Many miles AWAY from Ney York. There is PATH from Newark to WTC or 33rd Street, and there are agreements to cross honor NJT tickets when there are bridge or tunnel issues. Also diverting NY bound trains from the NEC to Hoboken c...
I read elsewhere that ACL crews may not be qualified on other lines.
Commercial frequency AC would offer more flexibility. Lets imagine the entire line electrified, from the NEC to AC, and with a connection to PATCO at Lindenwold. You could operate the dual voltage PATCO cars (read up a few posts) into Center City, and larger MUs or push-pulls into 30th Street. Of co...
The LIRR, Metro North and CTA third rail installations are 'legacy' systems, put in years ago, long before everyone was looking for an excuse to sue someone. There are enormous safety issues, and as noted, the technical consideration regarding substations. DC does not travel well. The more practical...
CMSL? RDCs? PTC? BLE? SMART? Seriously?
rr503 said: "Who said a combined RR would use NJT equipment? If we're really gonna entertain this idea, one would probably electrify the line to AC and run it all with PATCO stock". You really want to ride a subway car all the way between Philly and AC? And add third rail? That's what you ...
NJT buying PATCO would do nothing towards building a faster route into downtown Philly. The FRA vs. FTA issue is minor, compared to the fact that NJT cars wouldn't even come close to being able to fit into PATCO's tunnels or make the curves. This sounds just like the reporter in North Jersey, who su...
Diesels in Suburban? I think not-
Ex NJT/EL Comets were scrapped a few months ago. Didn't look in too bad condition, but their trucks had been borrowed for use as shop trucks during the equalizer fiasco. Bet NJT could have put them to good use now...
