No funding. Capital is being allocated to ARC and THE Tunnel. Sadly, NJT is clearly New York-centric and needs the additional capacity to bring trains into NYC before opening additional lines that would serve additional commuter markets that are thirsting for this service. I, for one, cannot wait for this connection to open and provide an alternative service to the NEC (hoping for a SEPTA-NJT express agreement using dual-modes, but everyone is allowed to dream).

Super Express?? Ha! Even after the direct Philadephia to Newark service died in 1981, when NJ Transit ran one round trip West Trenton to Newark for a year with some old junk, they covered West Trenton to Newark in 73 to 76 minutes. http://railroad.net/forums/viewtopic.ph ... a&start=30
Of course, if they start new service, with Shirley time, etc, we will be lucky to see the 95 minutes you propose from West Trenton!
JS
Somewhere I have a Reading schedule from the 30's, they could do all the way from Philadelphia thru West Trenton to Jersey City in 90 minutes or less.

More like a super local.

Raritan Valley locals that make all stops from Newark can reach Bound Brook in 47 minutes. Express trains that only stop at Westfield, Plainfield, and Dunellen can reach Bound Brook in 36 minutes.

Every time you write this word, its spelled incorrectly. Its "EXPRESS"... there are not 3 S's in it. Spell check, man.

He apparently didn't read the article that said that local trains would make the trip in 1 hour and 20 mins. Managed to add 25 mins of Shirley time years before the service starts. Maybe this guy SHOULD be working for NJT!

I didn't realize until recently -- I have a friend in Jenkintown that would become a lot easier to visit if this line existed. Shame it won't probably until long after one of us has moved.

Somerset County – $3,200,000 for preliminary engineering and design work for the restoration of passenger service on the NJ TRANSIT West Trenton Line.

http://holt.house.gov/FY2010transportation.shtml

This is the only NJT restoration funding listed on this site and projects are mentioned all over NJ.

Seems like things are going ahead.

IMO, wasn't the engineering and design already done, with the exception of the RVL/WTL connector? This is just porkulus for the consultants to study the line until the funding runs out again.

This is a step back. Nothing is moving forward as far as I can tell.

Wow...that's slower than the Crusader took to get to Philly's Reading Terminal over the same route. (Even the RDC Crusader.)

This must be an infrequent service if a xx00 train is leaving so late (when it really should be a odd-numbered train number). I assume he means PM since theres no use for super exspresses that early in the AM. I like how stops like Plainfield and Westfield are missed but a stop is made in Bound Brook.
