I am looking to have my birthday dinner at a decent restaurant with a good view of a busy railroad line. I live in the Phoenixville area and would like to know of some good eats. The theme of the restaurant does not have to be trains; I am looking more for view.

For instance, one of my favorite is Main Street Depot Restaurant (http://www.mainstreetdepotrestaurant.com/), but the trains on the old CNJ are sparse. Same with the Dansbury Depot(http://www.thedansburydepot.com/) in East Stroudsburg, PA. Great view but limited trains.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanx! :-D

Hello All,

Hello Pacobell73,

Well, if you don't mind travelling about an hour or so north into NJ, I'd suggest Sherban's Diner, 222 Front Street in South Plainfield, NJ. It is located adjacent to Conrail's portion of the Lehigh Line. NS, CSX, and CP (D&H) all pass this location. The line is (now) triple tracked at that location. The line hosts about 50 + freight trains per day. You should reasonably expect to see anywhere between 3 and 6 trains during the dinner hour. The grade crossing behind the diner will alert you to any trains approaching. There are two booths that look out at the crossing. If you call ahead and tell them its your birthday, they will make sure those booths are available for your party. The food is reasonable for a NJ diner. The dinner specials are pretty good. Just remember, its a diner, not gourmet restaurant, so don't expect superb quisine.

Here is a link to an aeriel view of the restuarant. : http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&F ... &encType=1

Hope this helps.

Hope your have a happy birthday!

Well, that's all for now folks,

See ya all later..........

This place looks good. We visit our family in NY and CT frequently, so this will be a good place to stop.

We have a place near us - Paoli Diner. The Amtrak/SEPTA main line is there; no freight, but plenty of passengers.

For a good dinner with a date, you might try the White Palm Tavern on Centre Avenue here in Topton; NS' Reading Line is right across the street. Topton isn't located on any major state highway, but there are several roads leading into it, and marked by highway signs, on US/Penna Route 222 between Maxatawny and Kutztown.

But if you're on your own and don't mind a taste of something a bit earthier, stop in at the Iron Horse/American House at the corner of Front and Main in Alburtis. There's a litho of a K-4 over the bar, but in reality, Herman, the place's Austrian-born, 68-year-old owner, isn't that big a railfan.

But the place is a genuine "blue-highways" slice of Americana, right down to its 60's-heavy jukebox. It's a reminder of the days before look-alike franchises....a transient rooming house right out of a John O'hara short story. Steinbeck, Algren, Inge and Tennesse Williams would all have felt at ease there.

It's not that far......come as you are.....we love that bar.

Hey there is a great restaurant in Bryn Mawr Pa, its called the Tango Bistro. I've heard its pretty good, and they have a train room where there is a huge window next to the amtrak/septa mainline with well over 100 trains a day. Its right next to the Bryn Mawr Septa station on the mainline off of route 30.

Just Search Tango Bistro on google maps for more info on its location.
